Tiny grains here in Bognor but doing a good job of covering all the old snow and settling in a light layer over the thawed bits. Glad not to be looking out onto grey slush anymore!

But if no traffic goes down the roads, then the snow will settle?

Normally have a phone call from my mum who lives near Limoges by now. Guessing they've had it bad down there and the phone lines are down. No let up here, small powdery flakes with larger ones occassionally. The grass has almost disappeared.

7 on the Murr scale here.

Does anyone think we'll get the 50p flakes?

I was thinking about that on Friday, and again today as this lovely fine powdery snow descended, the intensity varying but the flakes staying more or less the same. Perhaps we should have a Murr scale to use with low dewpoints that doesn't assume that an increase in flake size comes with higher intensity.

It's been snowing here moderately for a couple of hours now, but we've probably only accumulated 1cm or so with such tiny flakes. Hopefully the undersoil heating at Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane should be able to cope with that.

System needs a kick west - the heavier stuff is struggling to get past the heat island of central London
