Sky has now cleared of clouds here in last 30 minutes, temp was 0.3c 30 mins ago in my garden (and had been for hours)

it's now -1.2c, quite a drop in 30 mins

Current temps in Reigate -2.7c with -3.3c dew...

Met office app thinks -6 tonight!!

Hello GP. I am reading -3.9c with -5.7c dewpoint. I think the weather station sensor is now in the coldest part of the garden! I went out to look at it earlier, check it hadn't fallen off, and it was pretty iced up, not quite like the summit weather station on the top of Cairn Gorm, but maybe the Surrey equivalent. Albeit smaller. By quite some way. And easier to get to.

Not sure this comparison is a very good one, actually.

This is typical, last monday we woke to snow to have it all washed away by rain in the evening , Yesterday we had a fantastic day of snow, but guess what ? its raining here and quite heavy, which means by the morning it will most likely have eaten all the snow, which will be very upsetting for the kids.{and me}..

Why after a good snow event cant the temps stay at or below freezing for a few extra days just to mantain snow cover...other wise whats the point in the 1st place if its gonna all be gone in 24hrs.

1.6c here and heavy rain, heavier than any of the snow yesterday. Yet to see any real heavy snow here yet this year, here's hoping for a snowy February. smile.png

I've seen very light snow here for the last couple of houres - including a heavier bit when I went to the supermarket about 7pm. Nothing moderate to heavy though - yetsmile.png

Fair comment TR. On reflection it was light to moderate snow for a while. My imagination got the better of me !!

I sympathisesmile.png There was something of a thaw here today but fortunately no rain at all and since early evening there has been a little light snow, which although it hasn't amounted to anything other than a few grains on car surfaces etc, is an infinitely more welcome sight instead of rain. Rain washing away a good snowfall is very disappointing for sure. At least some good frosts and low dewpoints to preseve the snowcover for a few more days is not too much to expect. Much as happened last February in fact when snow, despite an early partial thaw, then hung around for a week with hard frosts and temperatures even in the winter sunshine staying close to or below freezing all daycold.gif

Funny how people have such different perceptions of light, moderate and heavy. Don't think I've seen anything more than light Friday and yesterday ... just my own perception compared to past snowfalls witnessed over the last 30 odd years . However, that's not to say light doesn't lead to significant accumulations if it lasts for several hours.

Looks interesting for tomorrow.... Further east than currently forecast? http://www.meteox.co...op.aspx?type=1#

Interestingly too, that indicates snow for all - if it were to verify as shown

Same as you Nick, not once even seen Moderate Snow this winter, most has been snow grains and not really seen any big flakes either, all a bit dissapointing really.

ANyhow the 7cm from yesterday is doing just fine and has receded back but only to 6cm and is still great for snowballs and snowmen building, no really cold nights yet to really compact that snow.

Looking forward to some really cold frosty nights and with the snow still plentifull in the trees down here some great rime frosts could be had first thing in the mornings if we can get some freezing fog overnight later this week.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
