Have to agree with the earlier comments from the Dundee/Perth areas - probably the best frontal snow event in years here. Even the snowfalls in the long cold spell of 2009/10 were more of a wintry mix and didn't produce as much lying snow.

It's pretty slushy down near the river but I measured 18 cm in the garden (at about 100 m.a.s.l.) a little while ago. Would anyone like to have a go at explaining why this event succeeded here when so many have failed?!

This next band looks like it's fragmenting a bit as it comes east. Hope it clears through quickly so that we have the chance of a slight frost.

Sky has cleared a bit and currently 1.5c.

Chatting to my daughter tonight and discussing how cold it still is after Atlantic fronts have come in and also how cold it remains later here locally for the next few days and we can"t help but wonder if the upper air coming in off the Atlantic is perhaps slightly colder than was expected.

We both feel that the next cold spell is not far away given the background coolness.

Perhaps from the north once these Atlantic monsters have done their dastardly deeds?

The good Dr Maue just posted up this marine analysis chart 961 - 929, might be the same one you found early Mondy.

Pub run is up to something tonight in the lower regions of Hi Res and into FI..whistling.gif

Northerly in time for next weekend?

Less unrelenting mild, more a 'less cold' blip on this output...

Charts like that are a piece of artwork in my eyes. The isobars, the symbols, just beautiful. Its what drew me into such a passionate interest in weather almost 40 years ago. I really detest the dumbing down of met charts since then.

have looked at the charts.ok tomorrow about 4c at midnight.once that really mild front moves through its then about 4_6 c during the dayday then about the same until Thursday when it cools.I don't think it's that bad.certainly for the skiers like me the mountains may lose very little.

Fat 50p sized snowflakes dive bombing in that last flurry. Good to see compared to the wispy stuff from the front earlier in the week ( for here that is ..) I think this area used up all its snow tokens in 2010 and the atmosphere has a good memory..

On Twitter reports pouring in of the Northern shires of England getting an absolute pasting similar to the SS/CMD snow zone and Perthberia.

The Atlantic showing it's hand now and the drag of warmer air evident, this colour image represents things well as the UK is slowly thawed from the SouthWest..

1C just now with thick sleet. Gosh how nice.

Yeah, usual pub run alien vs. predator nonsense - you know it's codswallop but can't help looking.

Definite rain sleet mix here in sunny Edinburgh, no idea what it's doing in Freuchie but I really hope it's snow there, 16cm now on the grass apparently, beating out all winters in my memory except 2009/10 and 2010/11 (not sure about 2005/6, I think it was around 6-7 inches too). By the looks of the New Inn traffic camera I'd say it's probably just about snow but hard to say. Insane snow on the A1 in Yorkshire:

A major pasting there too.

Looking at monday to wednesday again, I can't believe that the MO is being so complacent about the potential for widespread storm damage - there are no warnings out that I can see....

Hello, wake up!!
