About a cm of slush here on all surfaces, white on the grass. Seemingly an utter pasting back in Freuchie, Edinburgh evidently not the place to be in a frontal snowfall.

NMM suggests those with snow to the north and south of the central belt will keep it like that, turning to rain from the west but by the time it reaches the east it will likely die out before it turns. Thereafter, the thaw tomorrow looks to be very small, with temperatures dropping to below freezing (probably due to the snow cover) around Perth and dewpoints below 0C widely:

A generally dry day tomorrow too, but that will all change by evening as the Atlantic finally wins through:

We had a good run folks, a decent breakdown for the first time in a while and winter is still very far from over.

Just light snow in Stirling now - sum total of lying snow on garden table top is 3 inches.

Normally I'd argue till the cows come home and swear that that was more, but as always, the wife knows best.

edit - radar is showing some more build up heading towards us on the back of the front that's passing now...haven't checked temps etc so fingers crossed ( 0c/-0c dp)

Probably staying as snow for your area until 9pm, further north until midnight I'd reckon, though hopefully the fronts will have passed by then:

What a horrible day! Icy rain, sleet and occassionally snow. Wet, cold, dark. Expected nothing less from a westerly breakdown here. Amazing amounts of snow elsewhere - not even that far from here. It was obvious, based on temps this morning, that it wouldn't happen here. Was surprised to see the amber warning extended as far as it was but in the end it maybe wasn't far off.

Anyone explain why temps round here were so much higher than elsewhere. Edinburgh 4c at lunchtime with many other places reading 0c?

Not sure...could be down to southerly wind. EMbra is sheltered from the south....a lack of precip due south allowed the air to heat up more.....psuedo fohn effect?

Snaw still blasting doon here. Definitely an easterly component to it, dunno why, but guess the Forth is helping with some extra ppn

Lack of altitude, proximity to the coast, too far south, lack of early precipitation intensity (so we basically just had a bit of radiative heating from the cloud cover) and to top things off a localised upper warm layer:

This north-south divide across the Forth seems to be very common in frontal setups with the milder upper air never really making it north of the central belt.

Amazing that lower parts of Edinburgh even manged a slushy covering as there is nothing up here which is unusual. I guess the Pentlands played their part. Bizarre day and a strange cold spell really.

Well... again I must say very happy with that :) Had a nice hairy bus ride into town which took nearly 40 mins for a normally 10 min journey :)

Amazing snow depth up on the hill... approx 8-9 inches now I reckon, with only an inch or two of slushy stuff in the town...

Still having fingers crossed it will clear enough to get to York tomorrow!

Can't believe the amount of snow today around Dundee area and up into Angus. It's still going strong with heavy falls and sticking to main roads as well as side roads. It's been a pleasant surprise as I expected it to turn more sleety second half of today, instead been heaviest sustained falls which sticks so far this winter. Not looking forward to fast thaw and stormy wet weather next week.

post-11121-0-39981600-1359138498_thumb.jI'm delurking to warn that Falkirk town centre is totally at a standstill and has been for nearly an hour. Three inches of compacted snow / slush and a layer of water have made the roads - literally - like skating rinks. Several accidents, and no-one getting up towards the Braes at all, so far as I can tell. OK, so we've not had any snow to speak of the last two weeks, but the Bairns know how to make the most of a moderate snowfall - and not in a good way! Edited by decomm18

Just home. Best fall off the spell. The cover is a bit wet, but thick cover. Great to see. Still heavy just now. Cover at the back of Dundee is easily up to a foot now.

Happy days. Glenshee tomorrow!!

Glasgow had a bit of snow for about half an hour today. Nothing lay, quickly turned to rain. Can't get my head round how we'd miss out so much.

This is why I prefer cold crisp sunny days during a cold spell rather than promises of snow. Snow does its best to avoid Glasgow.

Storm hitting Mid-Atlantic has been named Winter Storm Khan

If it's named after Amir Khan then it'll be on it's knees and weak quite soonacute.gif

Just watched Reporting Scotland with young Mr. Northernlights who was in kinks when the snow reporter at Blairgowrie was snow balled. Poor guy! Did"nt put him off though.

Currently 1.1c and wet snow falling, going to be icy in the morning?

Edinburgh evidently not the place to be in a frontal snowfall.

Coulda told you that, anecdotally :D

The number of time over 34 years living here that we've heard "all of SE Scotland will have heavy snow" and we get snizzle or an inch of wet snow melting within an hour...

So far as I can tell we really only get snow properly when it's from an easterly, just too low, too sheltered, too much Forth to the north, too much Pentlands South and West...

Really pleased some of the snowless have had their snow (GraemeB...!) - I'm happy I got to go out on Monday morning in the falling snow even if it didn't settle really. If you live in Embra you learn to be happy with very little... :p
