Yes about 5 miles from Uxbridge and the wind here has been a feature for the last 4 or 5 days now. Nothing exceptional, just enough to be irritating. Dogs dont seem to mind it at all. While I was down in Sussex recently my friends dog had a whale of a time on the beach in all kinds of weather !!

My husband and I take it in turns to walk the dogs… one of them comes up and whimpers at 12:20 pm precisely which is when he reckons he should have his walk. Today it was blowing a gale and a mini blizzard, everywhere is sodden with mud so we tried to explain to him "No chance" but he doesn't care… he'll come up and nudge one or the other of us until he gets his 'rights'.

For the guys that know how to read charts better than me:

I am taking the other half to Luton Airport at 5am Sunday morning. Can I expect any Snow that would cause travel disruption or a flight delay?

Who forcast todays weather as a snow hurricane anyway?, I've only seen the term in here today, after it didn't happen.

Add some cordial and you'd have a slush puppy!

...Well, without getting too technical on y'all, I'd have to say it's chuffin' cold here, that wind sure has a sting in it's tail.

I told my youngest daughter to keep her vest tucked in to stop the draughts getting in, she has just been on the phone to her nan telling her that she has to keep her vest tucked in because of the giraffes!

I just put this in the mod thread... prepare a stretcher and bandages for me... keep up the excellent posts in this thread after I'm gone (-:

The upstream amplification H5 anomaly with a mobile W/SW pattern amplification & atlantic ridge anomaly of lower heights including of course a shortwave toppling azores, WAA (wey ay ay) is a bit beyond me….

Am I the only 1 out of 500+ readers of this thread that feels like they just landed on a planet where no-one wants to explain anything anymore. Makes me think some are just hiding in their words.

Ok I get "it's going to be cold with a chance of snow " sometime around this weekend due to warm meeting cold but surely an effort on the part of 'some' posters wouldn't go a miss for those of us who are trying to learn.

Some members here make an effort to explain their interpretations (you know who you are ) and others ramble unfathomable science oblivious to the lurking masses who read the MOD (AKA: Mad Output Discussion) between arguments about which model is best at every opportunity.

Come on make an effort for all the folk who come here as an alternative to viewing a forecast on cbeebies.

This model output discussion is becoming a running joke on the regionals.

Looking at charts(GFS and ECM) i feel we will just not quite be cold enough for snow in SE this Sunday/Monday.We need the slider to move a little further West i think which will allow colder continental air to filter over us from the East.It is however very marginal and at 5 days out things can and no doubt change.Today the 850s for SE were -6 but we still had rain/sleet this afternoon in this part of NW Kent.Think we will need uppers of at least -8 to get decent chance of snow Sun/Mon.

This winter is turning out to be a case of close but no cigar in terms of cold and snow for this part of the world.Things can still change though and with a month of winter left maybe things will go in our favour and winter goes out like a lion!!good.gif

It's the ridiculous over-emotive cliches so prevalent on the model thread which, in my opinion, make it so hard to learn. One liners such as 'looks like game over for cold', or 'long route back to cold' without any useful information which really get my goat.

In fairness, I really value the contribution of the more balanced members; the likes of CreweCold, Thundery Wintry Showers, and obviously Ian Ferguson. I go on that thread to try to learn from others, but the bickering and sniping and general immaturity really make it hard.

And then you think, hang on, it's the weather!!

I'm pretty sure a few of the negative one liner people are just trolling tbh, like the people who were saying no chance of cold while the last cold spell we just had in Jan was being modeled.

Hi hotspur, today we have only had -4 850's and with a warm north sea, one can only expecta bit of sleet, which, personally, is all I was expecting. By t120 ecm and gfs are predicting -8 or below, so should be low enough for snow for us. But this is still ages away in forecasting, and WILL change, almost certainly for the worst, (warm sectors, low too far east etc), id expect about a day of showers in a n/e feed giving an inch or two for favoured locations as the low pulls away. But anyway, you are right in this winter being close but no cigar on many occasions, but in my experience, most winters are, especially here in e/a,the dryest most boaring part of the country!

I do not agree.

I have had 2 very good snowfalls this winter so far and on one of those snowfalls it snowed for 13hrs continually!

Some good frosts and dry cold days.

So as for your statement " close but no cigar " this is not true!!
