As its a bit downbeat tonight, my straw clutch!

The following chart wouldnt normally make you sit-up and shout "I see a prolonged wintry spell developing and lasting

into the second week of March".

http://www.wetterzen...00120050216.gif

But a few days later that's exactly what started to take shape.

http://www.wetterzen...00120050220.gif

Remember at the time being on here with the likes of Steve M., Paul S, a few Nicks, TEITS, etc.and a certain Snow Princess.

I think the majority view was that we had a standard toppler on our hands but.....

http://www.wetterzen...00120050222.gif BOOM indeed!

And so on and so on......

http://www.wetterzen...00120050225.gif

http://www.wetterzen...00120050227.gif

And it went on.

An amazing spell, with 13 days consecutive of snow falling (very rare in an Outer London Borough).

So I'm not about to throw in the towel yet, even though its been a frustrating winter so far.

Can we be sure what kind of synoptics will be on offer in a week or so's time?

Regards,

Tom.

I remember this well. I have never had so many consecutive days of albeit light snow. I don't think the uppers were that low either. Bizarre !

Theres likely to only be ONE shift in direction & thats SW so the ECM map may not be so bad at this range-

Ive calculated that at 6 hour increments we have 8 runs to go. a mere 10 mile shift on each run & were in the jackpot zone :)

We all remember 1996.....

Might be a bit of a ramble, this. I'm wondering whether the reality is that the models enhance understanding and predictive accuracy, and have lots of obvious practical benefit around the economy and peoples' day to day life but, against this, the 4x per day (minimum) following of the model output might have lead us all to looking at computer charts, angst-ing about lines on a screen, arguing with others who see the lines differently or, in some cases, don't see the lines at all, and as a result we are missing the romantic point. Weather is a beautiful thing, even a dank February cold drizzle has its beauty, same way an unexpected 18c day in March makes you think of summer days to come, same way a frost in early september makes you thrill and shiver at the same time.

Anyway, no models = look out of the window, check your barometer, speculate and wonder. Could be a whole lot worse!

Very much imby (for which I apologise) but I like the upgrades for east Kent and the SE overall! This winter as been a case of so near yet so far for me. Plenty of times I've seen snow to the north, south, east and even the west with nothing here! The snowy Sunday a few weekends ago was as good as its gotten and even that was only several inches lasting no more than 24 hours...if only we could see something like the snowfalls of the early 80's (or earlier :) )

It's funny, appearance wise I would never have taken him as a weather forecaster.

Meanwhile in the Mirror....

White Sabbath: Up to EIGHT inches of snow expected to fall this weekend....

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/uk-weekend-weather-eight-inches-1594511

The whole country could be blanketed by snow this weekend with as much as EIGHT inches due to fall in some areas.

I like how they say the whole country and then print a snow map showing the areas expected to be affected....so obviously people outside of this area are no longer part of this country !!

One good thing I should say is that on Tuesday the Metoffice were showing a rather desperate 5C for Sunday, on Wednesday it was a lackluster 4C, yesterday it went to a half decent 3C and tonight it has upgraded to a favourable 2C. This will reflect other location as well :D

Actually this is a relief for me as I'm flying to Jersey from Gatwick with my 94 year old father for his youngest brother's funeral next week. Don't fancy being stranded at an airport with him — he's too old for it.

On the other hand it's snowed briefly every single day this week and settled quite well on Tuesday evening.

Dont go too far Steve, they'll end up being snowed in at Land's End!

Btw, Steve do you remember this chart from that Feb 2005:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/archive/ra/2005/Rrea00120050224.gif

The Danish/German s/wave that moved WSW and promised us 2/3 inches as it moved over us, a lot of us stayed up to the early hours radar/dew point watching, only to end up a damp squib, except the Pennines.

Blow me down the following night this:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/archive/ra/2005/Rrea00120050225.gif

A Thames Streamer that gave around 3 inches in the Bromley area. Great craic that was!

Cheers,

Tom.

Sorry! Wouldn't upload but a copy of the front page of the Daily Express has 48 hours of snow hell for the UK as headline!
