Looks like a cold night ahead, currently -1.3c which is the coldest it's been for a while.

Haha, I thought that myself, but then I checked the radar and it confirmed. :p

Apparently we had a dusting this morning too. I wasn't up to see it though....

Looks like a cold but usable day after a frosty start.

Currently -1.6c here and still a bit of patchy snow cover left from Sunday.

Wednesday is still looking good for a period of snow across much of the region although probably only a brief spell before milder air mixes the cold out and rain takes over.

Usual favoured areas for the lions share of snow, East of the region, Pennines and higher ground of the lakes.

Beyond that, ceratainly a spell of milder air but still the possibility of colder air making a return.

NMM would have 3 hours of snowfall for the region tomorrow before turning back to rain. Accumulations highly probable.

One of the models for next week says: Through the following days High pressure extends to Scandinavia and more importantly to Greenland serving up a recipe for some very cold air to develop, first from the East and then the NE as Low pressure is steered SE over the Atlantic into Spain and South through Scandinavia towards Europe leaving the UK in a very cold and potentially snowy weather pattern to end the run with a bitterly cold NNE wind.

Not all of the models though.

I think the area's been extended southerly in the Met Office warning - yesterday we were just in it (as usual!) and today it's down as far as Stafford...?

Matt Hugo twitter -

#rossendale #lancashire - Prepare for a particularly snowy Wed with a general 2cm to 5cm likely, but up to 10cm of snow a sound possibility.

Has it ever been set to do so?

No it hasn't been set to do so just a feeling I've got looking at the pressure charts also it isn't even here yet so like I said could be wrong

It could stall but I highly doubt it. Nonetheless several hours of snow seems a good possibility for those of us up over high ground.

Looks like a 100% nailed snow to rain event tomorrow. smile.png Looks like the weather front of the west coast of Ireland is already showing its hand there. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

For those interested current satellite imagepost-16288-0-31361400-1360669033_thumb.j

The front out east is moving in almost as quick as the one to the west

1 or 2 very tiny bits of snow grains here. It is so hard see it.
