We have an almost direct easterly wind blowing now. Feels absolutely raw outside, and this is just the start. Think I'm gonna stay off the motorbike tomorrow, and use the car for my commute. Brrrrr

ANAPROP - Anomalous Propagation - when radar microwaves are refraction by things like inversions down to the ground, and are then reflected back to the dish - as far as the radar is concerned, something is there, and so it displays it as a return, but it is not precip!

No not at all. I was wondering the same thing, but didn't want to look like a dope (not that you do) asking that very question. They are a very friendly and informative bunch in here. :-D

One of the many things I have learned during my time here is there is no such thing as a daft ( weather related ) question and the folks here are very friendly and helpful. Never be afraid to ask if you are not sure of something, invariably someone will come up with the answer. good.gif

PS. Anaprop was one of those terms that stumped me for ages, I eventually found out by asking !

I would say that the vertical lines on the radar are some kind of precip and probably evaporating before it reaches the ground as the Easterly air is very dry.

The lines that go horizontally from Kent to Belgium are classic Anaprop from the radar, and if you follow the three lines to a point where they meet in Kent that is where that radar is situated. Anaprop doesn't move with the wind, it just stays where it is.

It has been a wonderful day today wrapped up against that delicious icy cold easterly wind. I went shopping and drove to Hastings and the views out to sea were stunningcool.png Signs of a streamer setting up at the weekend, but amounts as you suggest may be small. Perhaps a light covering for one or two maybe thoughsmile.png
