Looking at the MeteoFrance forecast that shows the snow changing over to rain for the Paris area suggesting the low tracks a bit more ne as it heads east pushing in some milder air there, generally the forecasts have the snow in the far north of France initially, the southwards push doesn't really occur till Tuesday.

Theres an arc of precip that extends out from the low this could get pushed nw towards more especially Sussex/Kent later in the day.

For those wanting an idea of whats happening because of the set up keep an eye on the Meteociel observations because the further north you see snow reports from France the better the chances for the se and south coast, that arc of precip is however likely to stay south of the Thames unless theres a big northwards shift.

Great!

I hope you was being generous I am very worried here!

Looking at ededs snow accumulation chart we could see 10 -15 cm here. That fits in well with the rain accumulation chart from the latest GFS run (when I added it up frame by frame). Still light snow here at the end of the light streamer. Temp now below 1ºC and blowing a hoolie out there.

I think you are right but not by too much. Lovely map watching the low rotating.

Did you do geography at school!lol I'm near the 26 bit in the far sw of France! that's for the mountains though, not expecting more than a dusting down here later on Wednesday.

hi nick, do you agree that the LP system is further north than forecast? http://www.sat24.com/en/eu if so whats your opinion? i've also been watching the pressure observations on xcweather and they seem to have been further north than the forecast charts

Streamer is NOT moving SW its moving WSW- Subtle difference - which could now start to bring into play NW kent & SE essex-

This process to continue in the next 4-6 hours...

S

Hope so mate. Getting a bit impatient here on the mouth of Mother Thames...

I'll just pop that 3rd Round Snow Depth Cup Draw up again, just in case we get some measurable snowfall.

Looking like a whitewash for Kent/Sussex coastal areas perhaps but dont fret those members further N and W,

of course you still have the Brown Envelope option open to you! wink.png

i saw that but it didnt quite tally with the sat images. i'm wondering if a smaller LP spawned from the main one, which has possibly dragged the whole system further north

Evening all...been a bit of a reader for ages now with the odd post but time to join the fun and games of the forum. I will also let you all know my job is not to dissimilar to our friend Yamkin...except our focus is the major routes of Kent and Sussex. I can therefore give you a very exciting update from our forecasts:

Snow showers will start to fall from around 17hrs and continue overnight to give between 1-4cm. Into the morning there will be some more snow giving between 2-8cm of accumulations possible and in some places locally higher.

(This forecast is for Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex only)

Here's to a good couple of days...im off to bed as this massive upgrade means a very early start for me!

Good luck to everyone drinks.gif

I can confirm the above I quoted earlier was also for Greater London/Croydon, not just Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex. The info came directly from MetO's Headquarters.

Truly multi-tasking tonight, 3 radars open on the PC, SE thread refreshing every few mins to follow the discussions, Dancing on Ice final on TV, and Twitter update getting a careful eye for DOI gossip + weather tweets. I'm going to be exhausted by bed time.

Has anyone got sticking snow south of the Thames yet - if even on a car?

Going by the GFS position expected at 9pm it does look a little further north, we need to see a pressure reading for somewhere in the Brest Peninsula, if the low can deepen just even a touch more than expected that would add a little more northerly momentum.

Strong wind blowing, temp down to 1.1 but dry as a bone here in NW Kent(Just checked lampost outside my house!!)Radar looks promising but it has done in the past only to disappoint but we shall see.Looks like CI and Northern France could get pasted in next 24-36 hours if ppn charts are accurate.Looking forward, it certainly seems Spring is well and truly on hold till week commencing 18th March at earliest(and that is being optimistic!!)

We have a very light layer here - on cars, flowerbeds, the garden furniture - nowhere near enough to measure though! Still snowing very slightly - picks up intensity now and again.

Actually, on looking again, it's now settling quite rapidly on the grass and rooftops - it's very fine, grainy snow and I think it's quite deceptive - there seem to be short-lived but intense bursts which are really starting to leave their mark. I'm now officially really excited!

Finally dipped below freezing -0.1c, the constant graupel and light flakes that have been going most of the day have completely stopped.

Yay! Not that I think I'd have won this round as the streamer action is to my north and the low seems to be bing held back to the south..good job I won that last round :)
