Liking this band on the radar, woken up to snow blowing around in the wind, what a lovely sight sight!

http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=radar;sess=

Hopefully when it passes, convection will kick in as the flow today is better than yesterday for my area. ;)

Must have been more snow showers here last night as snow depth is now up to about 1cm, perhaps 2cm in places. Min temp of -4.8c, currently -2.4c. Would expect it to melt later as the day warms up, but it's interesting to see lying snow in March.

What I can't get used to is its painfully cold outside in the night then waking up in the morning and not a hint of frost to scrape of the windscreen

Had some mini-blizzards yesterday in some of the heavy showers, gave a dusting. Terribly cold too in that biting wind. Looks like staying cold for the forseeable, could be a cold March, looks like turning wetter and more unsettled later on in the week and into next though, but hardly springlike.

Strong winds and low dewpoints are the cause of that.

(dry air)

Can't believe GFS keeps throwing the risk of snow back at us over the weekend. Really want winter to back off now

Depends what we consider as spring like. To me its a topsy turvy transition from winter to summer and certainly not warm and sunny!

So the forecast goes for snow showers tonight in northern and western areas becoming more widespread later. Interesting.

Astounded at the GFS output today - if this comes off - it'll have gotta be one of the coldest Marchs for an age surely - the cold just won't let up - on and on and on and on - most or all of March will be BITTER - and the snow will just keep on coming - hope you're ready for all this!

Further snow showers toniht, gave a dusting of powdery snow, and some glitter like snow fell this morning. cannot remember the last time we had this type of snow .

If we have snow over the next couple of days, more liekly to be wet snow, more akin to what we normally get.

It won't come off though will it. GFS extremities are always moderated in reality, then there are the other models to consider for a more rounded perspective. ECM chilly but the -5c to -7c uppers it is showing for next week may not be low enough for snow all the way, rather more of a wintry mix, but great convective potential with plenty of hail and thunder about from this weekend, but miserably cool rather than cold, example chart:

From the March CET thread, 1987 is the milestone for modern cold March's:

March has rarely been below the long-term average in the past three decades. 4.1 in 1987.

While 1962 is unlikely to beat:

2.8 ... Coldest March of 20th century (1962) -- is tied for 15th coldest all-time

Currently the CET is on 4.0c with the warmer second half of the month to come:

Another dusting of powdery snow overnight last night. Can we make it 3 in a row? If NMM is to be believed, maybe, but it may fall as sleet here if we get anything overnight. Further north / east looks like any showers will be of snow.

Pembrokeshire dangles likely to setup tomorrow with winds veering so they are from the north, question is will it fall as snow for you guys in the west?

Dew points dont support snow for the coast however places further inland may see some show showers.

It got down to -3.6C last night at 1:53am, it's been rising ever since, now up to 1.3C with some showers heading in, looks like rain.

Mix of snow, sleet and soft hail showers this morning, none of them particularly heavy. Temp has risen to 5.3c. TBH would prefer it to rise further as it still feels freezing!

Unfortunately for those like me who would like to see some warmer weather (I do after all run a hotel, and Easter is early this year), the ECM shows further cold and possible snow next week. In the meantime this weekend looks like it will be a little bit warmer that it has been, but still pretty cold for march, and potentially wet. Cold rain, sleet and hail, yuck!
