The band of light snow showers sitting to the south of Newcastle is moving up north. Now light snow here.

Well after that covering last night the lot has melted and now you would never know it had been snowing

The radar is a lot quieter today so I don't expect much snow around yesterday seemed to be the peak in the showers

NE is now down to a level 2 cold weather alert this is in place till 03:00 Monday

Cold easterly winds easing, but still with occasional wintry showers and risk of ice.

Not a bad day today getting some bright spells at times this morning

The north sea is just about dead at the moment so apart from the odd snow shower hitting NE Scotland the east should be snow free today during day light hours

Another Ice warning has been issued

Issued at: 1141 on Thu 28 Mar 2013

Valid from: 2200 on Thu 28 Mar 2013

Valid to: 0900 on Fri 29 Mar 2013

Wintry showers are expected to develop in some eastern areas later on Thursday, persisting in places overnight. Where they do occur, they will increase the risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces, and additionally could leave a cm or so of snowfall, just here and there. The public should be aware of the risk of local tricky travel conditions, although such problems should be relatively few and far between.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Wintry showers have faded at present, but there are indications that they will develop again in some areas later today and tonight. There are some uncertainties attached to the extent of showers, and thus ice, within the warning area.

Covers

Redcar and Cleveland, Northumberland, South Tyneside, North Tyneside, Sunderland, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hartlepool, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees

You must be joking its 3.1 and still a raw wind. Yes the sun is out but hardly spring like. Just cycled 3 miles from work with 5 layers on and trust me its still very cold, not spring like whatsoever

Also some decent showers getting going in the north sea could give a dusting later on.

Fair enough, i love cold weather and snow but now i cant wait to go outside in a tee-shirt, walk down the beech with a lemon top and moan about it being hot. Last time i did that was in Greece in october.

Last time i did it in Redcar was the October before that i remember it was very mild.

Nothing like spring, hardly getting to an average January temp never mind almost April.

It feels like spring in the conny but in the real world it's still me fleece hat!

Never known such constant cold and maybe no end in sight!

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Staying cold with moderate to severe overnight frost. Variable cloud with a few light wintry showers in places, and with rather more bright or sunny intervals. Mainly light winds.
