Quite a dramatic change in airmass type on Sunday which is illustrated nicely

by comparing the dewpoints for the early hours of saturday and sunday morning.

saturday.. sunday..

A long time since we have had dewpoints of +10,it really will feel very different!

Had a bit of everything today, cloud, rain, extremely strong winds which were definitely gale force around lunchtime, and sunshine.

But most importantly it was mild, car thermometer read 17c which although might not be 100% correct is a superb jump from 6c on Friday!

A yellow warning for strong winds has been issued

Issued at: 11:54 on Monday 15th April 2013

Valid from: 06:00 on Tuesday 16th April 2013

Valid to: 21:00 on Tuesday 16th April 2013

Very strong and gusty southwesterly winds will develop across Northern Ireland early on Tuesday morning before extending across much of Scotland and parts of northern England later. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected, perhaps more in the most exposed locations. Winds across Northern Ireland will ease by late afternoon, and during the evening in other areas. The public should be aware that some minor disruption is likely, particularly across northern parts of Northern Ireland, central and eastern Scotland and North East England.

Yellow Warning of Wind17 Apr 2013, 19:00

Issued at - 17 Apr 2013, 11:35

Valid from - 17 Apr 2013, 19:00

Valid to - 18 Apr 2013, 10:00

Winds are expected to strengthen this evening, initially across Irish Sea coastal areas of northwest Wales, northwest England and the far southwest of Scotland, where gusts of 60 to 65mph are likely. This swathe of strong winds will then transfer eastwards across other parts of northern England (and perhaps the far south of Scotland) overnight and early on Thursday morning. Inland gusts of 40 to 50mph are expected widely, with 60 to 65 mph gusts possible across (and perhaps locally to the east of) high ground.

The public should be aware of the potential for some localised disruption to travel.

Still waiting for some proper spring warmth here in the Lake District. Despite it being a predominantly dry day with decent sunny spells, temperatures only got to 10-11 degrees which is slightly below the norm for the time of year.

The landscape looks like mid March rather than late April. Daffodils have only just flowered in the last week, and trees and hedgerows show no signs of bursting into green leaf anytime soon. However, the rains of the last week has managed to spring weeds into life. Grass growth is very stunted, unusually so - not great for cows going out to pasture.

This year is reminding me so much of 1996 which saw a very short spring - indeed May 1996 was one of the coldest of the 20th century - I'd be happy with a summer like 1996 though which saw a marked switch to very warm conditions in time for June and generally a very decent summer with plenty of very warm dry sunny conditions without anything particularly sweltering.

Sundays rainfall for this region has been downgraded now don't be surprised if many of us end up dry and cloudy with some sunshine during the afternoon and into the evening
