Strangely it was as warm here today in the rain as it was over the weekend in the sun.Around 19c.

Needless to say it felt much warmer over the weekend

Hopefully we can get over 700 hours of sunshine for this summer. Certainly possible if current charts hold.

700 hrs??!!!! have got 409 for june and july so will have to get almost 300 hrs, have only had one month since 1908 to do that[forgot when that was now june 1957 rings a bell]

June here was 201 hrs and July 296 and on 62 in august so a total of 559, august would have to be 202hrs for 700 in total here, rather unlikely but not impossible

700 hours? No chance here. June was cloudier than average and July was nothing special. Current sunshine hours would have us at around 191 hours of sun by month's end which is a bit above average (August is the dullest summer month), but next week could be very sunny.. or not.

A similar story here. June and July combined have been very sunny, but unfortunately August has been pretty dull since about the 3rd and that doesn't look like improving any time soon.

Been a while since we had a really good August as good as July just gone here.

I agree (though not as bad). We're around 90 hours for the month so far though, which is pretty good going for the dullest month of the summer on average.

We're on 533 hours for the summer so far. The sunniest here in recent times is 2003 with 682hrs, which is pretty safe I think.

We've only had one below average summer for sunshine here since 2000 and that was last year with 444hrs.

August so far is on 98hrs, which is pretty close to average for this point in the month.

Local Records for Wales/SW England give 207.5 hrs of sun in June and 303.8 hrs of sun in July, so about 190hrs of sun needed in August, perhaps a little behind what is needed so far, but given the forecast for next week and beyond it is still doable. (Source : Met Office)

With 209.6 hrs of sun in May, the May - June - July combo had already breached the 700hr mark.

Of the British weather stations recording sunshine Valley currently leads the way in terms of sunshine at 618hrs (Up to and including 13th August)

Source Weather online and http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html is very handy for collating the monthly figures.

As soon as one lot of cloud clears, another lot is lining up behind it. Boo. Can't we get a completely sunny day just this once, please?

We have 3 cricket matches remaining in the local league. If they can pass off without any significant rain then it will make it a whole season where we havent once had to go off for rain. Pretty remarkable. This summer is close to challenging 2006 and 2003 as the best summer in living memory. Just need the final 10 days of August to be predominantly warm, dry and sunny.

summer 2013 is definately behind 03 and 06... unless this magical late heatwave materialises and lasts... which its not looking like doing...

(must say though that 2013 is probably the 3rd best summer of this centuary so far)

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed that it doesn't. On hol this week and it would be tragic (for me) if it got hot and sunny to spoil it. Really, really needs to put some water down now - had more than enough of this nonsense.

well... now the hot spell has all but gone... this august could for me turn out to be pretty poor..

so far ive had 1 day of 25c or over... i should get 1 on friday... after which theres no chance of a 25c again this summer. (september is autumn). that would make this august worse then the august of 07, the wet summer, as i had 3 days of 25c+.

you can make statistics prove anything! :p

Not sure you looked back so fondly on a month 1c below average at the time.

If we get above 25C only once until the end of summer, we will have had 3 days above 25C in August and one day above 30C, and so far we are above-average temp-wise. Sunshine is a little disappointing however.

August 2007 was actually a pretty good month in our neck of the woods. Rainfall was 50% of normal, sunshine was 115% and the first 11 and last 11 days both had no rain at all. Temperatures were exactly average but the low minimum of 10.1C and low maximum of 17.0C meant there werent really any overly cool days/nights.

I think that the heatwave we were told to expect a few days ago is going to be no more than a few dry days with temps in low 20s and sunshine if we are lucky. With that in mind if we are to take the summer as a whole it is going to be average at best.Sure some of you are going to think im going mad but in june and august we have barely had 3 entirely sunny days together. The very good july has been let down by june and august, the only bonus is that it has been relatively dry.

like i said, you  can use statistics to prove nearly anything. im not denying that aug 07 was poor, but if we are usung 25c as a benchmark (and ignore the cet) then 07 had 3 days in aug (here), so far this year ive had 1... (friday looks likely to be #2).

not here mate... ive had 1... when it was 30c... (aug 1).

not bothered about the cet... mean temps alone mean nowt much if they havnt got the sunshine levels and daytime max's to match...
