I have circled some areas of the radar.

Circled (turquoise) storms EA near the Wash area - appear to be backbuilding.

Thunderstorms - radar 2.jpg

Circled (green) towards the SW UK up to Cardiff this line becoming more organized, expect this to interact as moves NE.

Bright lightning just to the east of Reading, and these are brighter than the London storms I could see earlier, must be around Slough area.

Report advancing thunderstorm to Stanwell/Heathrow areas deep thunder long rumbles have seen lightning(sheet) west facing so can't see the cells approaching directly. sudden formation of the storm 15 mins or so. Just shows that look at radar nothing local then not long after that there they are!!

What is the mechanism that causes t-storms to build at night?

I maybe wrong but I think its diurnal heating?

Storms to the West, storms to the East....and still nothing in the centre, and it's been like this all bloody day, this is the second night I've stayed up and I've just about had enough now, one has got the hump.
