Anyone actually know where we're at with this thing? Can't get any info on the storm thread because they are all banging on about comparisons with the St. Jude's storm!

It looks pretty bad for a lot of places but as usual it's, location, location, location.  I saw the beeb actually mention north-west Scotland which suggests it may be bad there, and the youngish male presenter used the b-word, first time I'd heard that from that source.

Other models still going with at least

930mbs and NOAA at 924mbs?

 

its a case of wait and see as its only just starting to wind up and like with the storm down south earlier we need to see how it interacts with the surroundings as we saw with that storm it downgraded really close in and didn't hit.

 

I think we will defo be below 940mbs we will just have to wait till 00 hr to see what we actually get down to.

First the Jet exiting Newfoundland at 201mph, core circled.

 

The RGB airmass shows the descending cold stratospheric air which will assist the system in bombing.

 

Finally the WV image with the low circled.

 

Pretty much Xmas for a weather geek with so much going on !

Heavy dry snow showers now as well here.   Currently  0.2c

 

 Grown up kids here are as delighted to see it falling as much as the really old kids, just makes Christmas for us

The temperature did drop enough and we did get a wee bit of wet snow about 4.30 this afternoon. Seems to be clearing now with more stars appearing and the temperature is dropping. My wife saw a flash earlier, which I missed as I was making the dinner so can back up reports from several others.

 

This evening I'm posting a song by a Glasgow band called 'The Happy Particles'. They made one album and have since split up, so not a happy ending... The song is called 'Slowness'. Such a lovely song and a favourite of my wife.

Well I have to say had the most fantastic family day at Blair Atholl this afternoon....a stunning castle and the kids were piped into the stunning lobby with huge Xmas tree as the snow fell heavily outside....the Santa was tremendous kids loved him and had the old adult humour thrown in.....anything over 85m on the A9 and the snow was sticking....I have a good feeling about being the right side of marginal this time unlike last year...love to have snow lying for Xmas day!!

Snow here at last! And more to come judging by the radar. And a day off tomorrow to play in it. And darling wife had offered to go do Christmas food shop before breakfast tomorrow, hero.

Jeez, crazy reading through the last 24 hours of this, weather absolutely on steroids - who said zonality was dull? Here in Prague we've had a really rather tranquil few days in comparison, some sleet at 1C on Friday night, 1/-3C yesterday with some nice sunshine and some nice hoar frost on the train to Dresden today but milder with light- rain by the time we got back. Slightly dreading the flight back tomorrow evening but very glad we aren't flying into what looks to be the worst of it on Christmas Eve - even then gusts around 30-35 mph won't be that fun to be in a plane in. I can proxy report sleet via my grandparents in Freuchie but not settling and I'm looking forward to experiencing the wintry stormy smorgasbord first hand from the comfort of our log fire from tomorrow evening onwards.
