After being woken at 6.45 by the hunters' guns at our remote house and just about getting myself back to sleep following our late-night lost-luggage watch, another ear-splitting thunder storm arrived in the Limassol region at 8.45 this morning for round two. I must admit daytime is nowhere near as spectacular as the night-time sound and light show, but still impressive as we watched the storm head off towards Troodos which gained a snow covering overnight.

Avoiding the Cyprus tradition of heading mountain-wards and snow-wards to pack out every road, snowy patch and eating establishment for Sunday lunch, we took the mother in law to the seaside. The waves were incredibly churned up, maybe as a result of yesterday's earthquake, and the seagulls were enjoying a feeding frenzy on the shore. With the stiff beach breeze it was really exhilarating and we enjoyed fresh white bait with a cat standing by for our scraps or a foolish seagull, whichever turned up first (I gave him a bit of fish so he wasn't over-motivated to take his chances in the sea).

Sorry to hear of the south-east weather prospects and hoping we can return OK next Friday evening.

Some pics of hungry seagulls taking advantage of the churned up sea with the cat standing by (and on this occasion not so foolish nor hungry as to venture into the water):

Edit: just scrolled back through the kitty-cat jokes; it seems our little Cyprus chap has found the right spot here:)

Glad to see the evidence, just  to show you're not "lion" about it.

Anyone follow Simon Keeling on twitter? He's talking about possibilities of a sting jet from tonight's overnight feature.

can you give a link to it?

Once tonight / tomorrows stormy event has gone through, Next one is new years eve into New years day, Which could pack quite a punch compared to recent ones. New moon also 1st of Jan so flooding again will be a big concern especially coastal districts.
