The area I live in, close to the Hastings Countrypark has enough 'altitude' to prevent flooding for sure - but yes, nights like Monday into Christmas Eve certainly pack quite a hefy breeze!!  Yes I can well imagine Bodiam flooding again - very prone round there.

A south east corner get together sounds a wonderful idea!! We are all one region, north and south of the Thames, but having separate and accessible meet-ups does not split us, it merely conveniences usPosted Image

Not quite sure where the middle of the area is - we need to include the south coast from Brighton to Dover, plus as many Kentish northerners who want to play, and a bit of Surrey (sorry, you may have further to come).

Anyway, something to think about in the New Year.

We need a very south-east version of MK's get-togethers....

Something that is already in the early planing stages hopefully for Spring 2014, so be ready for an invasion from some of us from the north of the Thames, we might even be able to present the snow depth cup at the meet up to the lucky winner if any of us ever get any snow to measure  Posted Image

Another thing i am very interested in as well as the weather is earthquakes.Did you hear there was a 5.3 at Canary Islands? This is interesting as it is meant to go into the sea and cause a tidal wave if it becomes detached.

It was a bit away from La Palma (the island that's meant to be really unstable as far as I can remember):

I don't like the look of the swarm between Cyprus and the Turkish coast. I have friends who live a mile or so inland (at Olimpos) and if that area's going to see an upsurge in activity, it could be devastating as the soil is basically sand and silt.

Hi all, thought I'd say hello as last on here end of April, so strange reading about storms and high winds then the normal expected snow.

However saying that the very long cold spell only started on the 15th January this year so you never know. We all forget that a normal winter in Great Britain, snow is most common in Feb, so loads of time yet!

Evening everyone

Mainly sunny today until the heavens opened late pm whilst we were visiting a flood protection project I signed off not a month ago in a small Kentish village. Can't say how relieved I was that  it was completed  in such a timely fashion given the recent weather . It was really encouraging to hear  residents reporting that the new flood defences installed gave them peace of mind whilst the river rose and the only thing they had to worry about was the 15hour power cut - hmmm - nowt we could do about that!

Last night we spent a lovely evening in the Surrey Hills with my whole family together for the first time in many years .When the next lot of gales come along - Please try again to advise friends and family to be careful when deciding to drive/travel in the worst of the weather if they can avoid it-.

Although here on Netweather  we know the risks/weather severity - unfortunately some of Joe public seem to feel they don;t need to listen to us.  Despite my warnings, my sister-in-law (doctor) was hit by a tree coming back from work monday evening - luckily she was driving the Family 4 x 4 "tank" rather than her usual mode of transport - i.e. her mid-life crisis Beetle -  otherwise it could have been rather serious and 3 kids may have had a carp Xmas with their mummy in hospital or worse. She was shaken but unhurt and "The tank" escaped with a cracked bumper/bit of bent metalwork - surprisingly the windscreen remained intact.

People always think it won;t happen to them or theirs.....but sometimes it does and then, like my S-I-L, they  start to realise they are not invincible. Hopefully none of our friends/neighbours/loved ones will take unnecessary risks when the winds whip up again and will heed our concerns/warnings...frustrating though it is until they finally get the message!.Off to clean out more piggies whilst watching Star Wars back to back - turkey and chips will be making an appearance at some point!xxxP.S. Great idea - I'm up for a  SE meet!xxxx

Wow, that was a storm and a half, and apologies for Limassol weather updates, but there was one thunder clap that literally had my husband and me leap skywards; it's been a permanent sound and light show for some half hour now, rain arrived about half way through, and at one time my son tore himself away from his laptop to mention that 'that one banged the house'! Deep in the storm somewhere we are told there is a taxi with my son's suitcase in it with 10 Limassol deliveries to make, unsurprisingly he is already running one hour late:(

I love the flat lands of EA. ( Lincs' & Cambs too) All my family originate from this area and my aunt lived in E Heckington along the A17. It's my adopted home (EA) and I love it. :)

Anyway....just been out plane spotting with my radar and it's ruddy freezing out there. Brrrrrr!! It must surely snow soon.
