I've been playing over the lack of modification Iin my head and I'm JUST airing on agreeing with you. I'm actually fascinated with this event because I cant remember such a marginal event

Uppers are milder tonight but with no sea modifications like boxing day it's actually alot less marginal.

Boxing day relied on intensity aiding evaporating cooling.

The flow is really slack so our region should be fine at all levels.

Indeed we don't want to turn into the North West thread where posts regularly centre around what accu/meto/bbc/xc weather computer generated forecast show.

We've all been there at one point regularly using them but most of us have got the memo they are pretty useless.

I remember my sole long range weather was the CeeFax 5 day forecast, which always said York Hvy Snow at five days and then steadily downgraded day by day to light rain or cloudy on the day. I sometimes wonder if I wasn't better off in those days....

Nah! not really.

Well that was a pretty poor forecast for our region from paul Hudson tonight. Looks very much like a rainy sleety mix for majority of our region. With probably highest areas of Derbyshire Sheffield doing best. Enjoy if your around those areas. Hopefully see something abit more widespread feb time. But think tonight I will settle down infront of telly and see if there are any surprises in the morning.

Dont worry, those graphics were just poor. Look at the type radar, its all snow right down to Birmingham, Yorkshire is going to do at least as good for snow chances as that and its all snow. No sleet in sight. Pretty confident this will be snow.

We just need the band to develop a bit more as its very thin and light so far. Im still trying to decide when its going to be at its most intense.

It's quite easy to get burned in these situations where there is so much uncertainty.

Very much a now cast.

I dont expect much more than 5cm here. Its going to be one of those snows for 12 hours but only works out at 0.4cm per hour lol

The sleety mess which is being forecast is probably due to the lack of intensity. We really need this to pep up big style.

The band should move into Sheff in about 10 minutes!

Basically an injection of moisture skating down the Irish Sea will interact with the slow moving front over Central England. You can see this happen now on the radar just west of Wales.

It's certainly got its skates on in the last hour or so, it was miles away not long since!

Hold off just a wee bit longer, I'm in Barnsley atm, need to get home!!

I thought I was going to be too far north for this (5 miles north of Skipton) but NW, BBC and Met Office all forecasting a LOT of snow here.

We'll see I guess, 50/50 whether it fizzles out before it gets this far up.

yes i can confirm the first light flakes now falling. Very tiny though, just a sugar coating so far. Lets hope that Irish sea moisture works its magic then, for ALL OF US! :D:cold:

Yes, good luck to everyone and I hope that as many of us as possible join in the snow fun.

To me it looks like it's a couple of hours ahead of expected rather than 'further north'. Based on the NMM the overall picture currently looks similar to what it predicted for 10pm tonight.

I hope you're right......

The front has progressed much quicker than what the Euro4 is showing....hopefully that means a northward push.....

Where's HC when you need him lol?!

Accumulations of 2-5 cm are likely in places, mainly above around 150 m, perhaps with 10 cm very locally on high ground, particularly the Peak District and high ground of north Wales.

Lets see what happens???
