Band looks to be pepping up alittle on raintoday :)

And not where I thought the heaviest precipitation would be.

Absolutely, I'd like someone who knows how these things develop to say whether the current evolution matches the forecasts up to now. From my untrained eye it looks further north and more intense than the various short term models were showing for this timescale.

Its definately pepping up, although still fragmented. The clump of PPN in the Irish sea appears to be moving north lol, certainly more north than east!

That's my thinking. It looks significantly further North than predicted, maybe as much as 50 miles further North.

Should be good for us, but bad for the Midlands.

Rough guess but does look like hardest hit areas will be West and South Yorkshire, from this first band.

The Met Office hourly forecast for my area shows the heaviest of the snow between 6am and 10am tomorrow morning rather than tonight.

Perhaps it will pep up more as it moves away South?

All pointless conjecture at this stage anyway. As people have said, radar / lamp post watching is the way to go from now on.

It certainly is darn cold out there whatever happens!

Just checked NMM and the 06z run is widely different than what is happening, does seem like the Heavy stuff is going a lot further North than predicted.

Think South Yorkshire could fair the best from this tonight. Us in the west I think are going to struggle. Certainly bbc app for huddersfield is showing just a few light flurries in the early hours. We're as if u look at Sheffield barnsley Chesterfield look as though they could cop some. Heavy snow. So to those in the south enjoy.

I can imagine Sheffield will do well. Currently in London but coming back early morning, then have to make it to University in the afternoon to hand an assignment in. So i reckon its odds on to snow so something happens to the public transport

In seriousness i still favour the south and west of our region to do well (could be 10cm+ in the peaks). I'd suggest 5-8cm in South Yorkshire, 3-6cm in West and North Yorkshire, a dusting to a couple of cm in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

New Met Office warning now seems to cover the whole region bar the North and the East Coast.

Guess they just following whats happening, and that its stronger and more North than predicted.

Hi Lincstim

Thats the met office website I used. You will be able to put your location in and then click on each day which has a tab. It will then give you hourly forecasts like I showed in the pic :)

If you just look at the bbc app all the time you will never get it right I've learnt that been on this forum!

From Met Office. 2-5cms above 150m.Thats a downgrade no?

1626 on Tue 20 Jan 2015

Valid from:

1630 on Tue 20 Jan 2015

Valid to:

1200 on Wed 21 Jan 2015

Outbreaks of sleet or snow are expected to extend northeastwards from parts of Wales across parts of the Midlands and northern England on Tuesday evening and night, persisting into Wednesday morning in places. Accumulations of 2-5 cm are likely in places, mainly above around 150 m, perhaps with 10 cm very locally on high ground, particularly the Peak District and high ground of north Wales. In the south of the warning area, the snow is likely to turn to rain on Tuesday evening and overnight. The snow should ease gradually through Wednesday morning.
