Snowing lightly in Barnsley. Started to settle but just a light covering so far. A nice surprise as this wasn't forecast!

I've seen this before, not unusual expect it to not show on the rainfall radar.

Great pic. Im just next to Snake Pass so went out for a drive just after that event too. It was piled up like the Alps at the side of the road going up to Strines.

Thankfully i captured a few shots of that event to remember me by,

just booked a week off for the second week of feb to go to cumbria again, last year was a disaster up there with only a light dusting at the very top of Scafell pike,i go there every year but this year should be epic, will get some good footage for you all when i get back :)

this though was back in 2013 on my way up to Scafell pike looking at Great gable, that was a great day out

Most unexpected indeed!

The Pub Run is coming out....wonder what that will show....

It shows(on this run) that the heaviest ppn/snow(hatched area(snow)) is over N Wales transfering to the humber region with a legacy(showers) of ppn hanging around until 48 hrs, maybe beyond.

I hope you see some snowy scenes when you visit. In an average year second week of Feb usually sees decent snow cover on the fells, the atlantic traditionally quietens down around mid Feb and the Lake District goes into its 'driest period' of the year. Last year was terrible with snow reserve for ground above 700 metres only and hardly any spells of dry settled calm weather to get out and about.

Current conditions are superb though, deep snow cover down to 300 metres with patchy cover down to 100 metres.

Feb 09, 10, first part of 12 and all 13, delivered excellent winter walking conditions in the Lake District, lots of dry bitterly cold weather with decent low level snow cover. It is the best month overall for winter walking/mountaineering.

Thanks Damianslaw :)

been looking at the webcams up there and looks the part, heres hoping it will still be there by then, should be with the temps supressed i would guess, when we went up in 2013 the temps @ ground level was 7c but up at the top it was below freezing

last winter me and my mate went on the first week of Jan,so prob a bit premature, but by the looks of it,it didnt matter what time of winter 2014 it was,it wouldn't of been any better.

oh!,and to add about the storminess,i had never experienced winds like i did up there last year, was wicked though.
