Showers are light and have turned sleety, but still a good cover - maybe a couple of inches.
Gauge has counted almost 5mm of melt which shows there was a very significant shower late yesterday.

Not exactly the nicest out there today, mixture of heavy sleet-wet snow showers and just drove through a hail shower. Bit of everything really cant' call it boring, just wish it was that little bit colder

Heavy snow for last 20 mins, Consett has a good covering. Freezing conditions tonight will make side roads lethal.

Totally agree, the snow seems never-ending here and still really heavy. The slushy paths that iced up last night have melted and the new 5cm of snow is not settling on the slushiest ones so another treacherous dog walk this evening.

Looking across the Derwent valley the snow line looks to be about 100m though expect a bit lower in the heavy showers.

Edit:pics taken 15 min ago brrrr, even heavier now.

Still waiting for the council to recycle my Christmas tree. Think it will sprout roots very soon :)

EDIT: A692 a white out now so drivers beware on road from Gateshead to Consett.

There is quite a bit of hatred there geordiekev, the pictures look great.

All you can see here is concrete.

I guess the light dusting was good while it lasted lol.

Just got back from Morrison's (North Shields), I'm absolutely soaking wet! Had I still been living in Athens, Greece, I would have seen more lying snow this Winter! Please not another depressing drab Winter, time to move me thinks!!!

The radar does show up as sleet but its really heavy snow when they reach about 150-200m and they look to continue for a while. Not sure what effect the late afternoon will have as last night brought the snow level down to the coasts.

As it happens I used to live on the other side of the Valley and was always jealous that the town on top of the other side of the Derwent Valley had visible snow when I had sleet as it was South facing so I when I saw a house for sale in the sweet spot I moved and never regretted it, even if I have to move 2 tonnes of snow to get to work sometimes.

Anyone online from Stanley or a similar elevation?

Just wondering if I'll have any trouble getting home from work.

Now snowing in Longbenton after sleet and rain showers, just wet snow though.

Stanley is at a similar elevation as I and atm I would imagine the main roads are fine (passable). Personally if you can avoid rush hour I would as so many drivers can't cope and many driving with most Windows covered in snow, fools. If there is another heavy fall as the temperatures drop away could be more of a concern as most roads in and out on gradients.

Edit: really heavy snow again fyi.

Thanks for that. I would leave now if I could but I'm relying on my Mam for a lift today so it's probably going to be rush hour.

Quite surprised there's so many showers still, I thought they would have stopped by now.

It is snowing again atm very heavily and not taking much for the main A roads to be totally white as salt has washed away so need to be careful and prepared for worst.

edit: here's the a691 atm (slushfest)

I can see the main A692 road from work in Consett and the traffic seems to be running more or less at usual speed.  Don't know what it's like on the inclines or side roads however.  It really hasn't stopped snowing for more than a few minutes since I arrived at work at 8.30 am.
