Fog finally lifted about 3.30 this afternoon. Now cloudy and dull. Temperature currently 1.6C, so a cold day overall.

I see there are some tentative signs in deep FI of some colder and possibly snowy weather. Turning point looks to be around next weekend and the folllowing week.

Been out since midday playing golf.

Was one of the coldest days for a while with the fog getting denser until it suddenly lifted a bit to very low cloud.

Temp at 17:00 was max for the day at 1.1C. Gradually rising now at 1.9C.

I thinj its my first negative overall temperature based upon on the CET measure  (17:00 til 17:00) for 2 years.- it being -0.7C..

It will have warmed up by tomorrow though.

Almost an ice day here, temperature only got above freezing at 6pm. Very foggy throughout. Even icicles formed on the spoiler of my car!

Yeah a lovely rural part of Warwickshire Tony with loads of great countryside walks, love it round there, not surprised it's so cold there being in a valley.

It is lovely Eugene but its actually a couple of miles from the Avon valley on the somewhat higher ground of Lawford Heath, not actually in the village of Church Lawford which is in the valley.

After a clear and sunny day thick fog developed very quickly around 1600, accompanied by a freshening SW breeze, and the temperature fell rapidly from 2.6c to -1.4c. The latter is lower ( just ) than anything recorded here in 2014.

The fog has persisted since but the temperature has recovered to 0.5c.

Well its winter over time in the MOD no SSW hats being eaten... toys and prams.. How many times have we heard that an SSW does not mean cold for the UK... We don't need one for cold in the UK we didn't have one in December.... look what happened the last week of that month for many.... you watch the pub run throw a drunken special and all will be back on again.... gotta laugh sometimes.

And as if by magic a stunning pub run..... Greenland highs and frigid temps aplenty....time for the MOD to pic up the toys and place them back in the pram.....

Just scraped a frost here this morning, -0.6C.

Misty early, like a cold September morning. Beautiful blue skies, lovely out with the dog. So far this morning has been very spring

Iike and warm feeling in the sun. Barely any breeze. Looks as though it might be about to get cloudy for the afternoon.

As bad as it would be it would actually be nice to live thru something like this just once.... the blizzards and winds and drifts would be something.

Horse chestnut is not a good burner for open fire we`ve had plenty of that in the past.

100mph winds far north Friday, looking extremely mild south.

Saturday still looks good for January style 1984 cold zonality.

Morning all,

Bits of rain about (2 mms overnight) this morning.

Temp a fairly mild 8.1C.

Rain expected this morning, then cooler and brighter later.

As for the weekend bomb low. It probably will not verify in this way, but something similar could cross North Scotland.

Rain just passed through here and temp fallen back a bit to 7.2C from an early morning high of 8.3C. Blue skies appearing over the horizon. Hopefully, it will be as nice later today as it was yesterday morning which was rather stunning here.

OK, I have only burnt it well-seasoned in a woodburner and it was as good as ash or beech. Why is it no good on an open fire. is it very sparky or something?
