It will remain marginal for much of the night I'm afraid.

Constant sleet and hail showers here of late. Never seen so much hail here in Falmouth - did case a few accidents last night on the roads though as hail covered everywhere for a time basically turning roads into ice rinks briefly (especially around Ponsharden at the bottom of the very steep hill in Fal for anyone who knows it well). See its just as frustrating as normal at home in the Midlands though.

Goodness, it's sticking on everything now. Close to 1cm in 10 minutes, very unexpected.

Thanks!

We should all stick our freezers outside to bring down the temps and uppers lol. Uppers are no where near as bad as last nite and dew points look gd also.

Dew points and temperatures are between -2'c and 0'c all across the region, I think it'll be fine to be 100% snow for the vast majority of us. :-)

It seems to be struggling a bit, how far is it meant to go?

I heard it's going to speed up, hit Oxford, intensify and stall for about 12 hours :)

In my dreams! Haha.

I'd be happy with it stalling for about ten minutes

Nice top up tonight in Stoke, especially as a fair bit melted today. Mind you not much in the way of activity after this.

Thought the GFS 12z and 18z modelled last nights precipitation well. I viewed the 18z whilst stuck on the plane after landing at Heathrow for 50 minutes as there we no buses forthcoming to take us to the terminal! Arrived home after midnight to a covering from earlier showers, then awoke to about 3-5cm depending on the surface. Outskirts of town and in the village my son goes to school a consistent 5-6cm cover, 8cm in the fields. Due to a jack knifes lorry on the A6 just south of Rushden, not only did the 13 minute trip to school in Thurleigh took me 1hr 45 minutes it was then another 45 minutes into Bedford. There was still about 5cm about 3 miles north of Bedford but once in the centre only about 1cm. On the way home still a good cover in the fields out in the sticks despite the thaw. Anyway most lying snow here since March 2013, mostly thawed in the town centre, grass in the back garden still has about 2cm, which has frozen up now. Complete pain this morning.

The main blob is now starting to turn southeastwards , I think Oxfordshire will do well out of this and thereafter the south.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics
