After a cloudy start, it's starting to brighten up here with the cloud thinning and breaking. The temperature is also fairly chilly at 1C, but the main feature is the frigid northerly wind.

Do feel for the meto sometimes, if they don't issue warnings they get stick and if they do it's "all for nothing"

Understandable frustration but they can only do with what they have Infront of them- something that is chopping and changing with every run..

Which brings me on to the GFS 6z, only managed to have a brief look because I'm at work, but it does look plausible with plenty of snow opportunities throughout the run. Will be interesting to see the ensembles and the 12z suite, personally I don't buy into the high pressure scenario that has been signalled, with entrenched cold over the uk (not as much now but Definatly as the week goes on) I do believe we will see upgrades, unable to post charts as I'm on my phone but it could just get interesting... All to play for me thinks!

Now where did I put that ramp...

As expected for our region in a N'ly.

If you like benign weather then this next week is for you.

Go to berlin tomorrow for a few days. Glad I'm not gunna miss out on snowmageddon then. :)

However you do know if London gets any snow this week, it's gunna be on the tv and papers everywhere as if the whole country has it.

I find that quite frustrating.

Its going to be absolute borefest on here next week as high pressure hangs around over the UK.

I now give this cold spell 4/10.  It is still pretty rubbish so far. Definitely not in the top 5 category.  :(

So as is normally the case our region is pretty quiet now that the wind is from the north.

The models make pretty grim reading for the upcoming week in terms of snowfall.

As ever things can change in an instant and we know there is plenty of instability associated with the airmass we are sourcing from the Arctic.

Our next best opportunity is the little low due to move South through the Irish Sea late Monday or early hours of Tuesday.

A lot will depend on the track of the low as to what falls dom the sky.

On the western flank the PPN is likely to fall as rain. Anything that falls on the eastern flank will prob be of snow .

Ideally we want the low to keep West well away from the coast.

Euro4/GFS out at 48hrs:-

So once again lots of marginality associated with this feature. Those on high ground to the East are probably most at risk from snow. Lots can change in 48 hours. Especially in this set-up. Will be interesting to see how the NNM sees it tomorrow.

No precipitation is forecast for our region! This is a dying system and there will be no energy left to it by the time it reaches our region.

You could always put on Earthcam and snow hunt!!

I managed to find heavy falling snow on live stream on this one: http://www.earthcam.com/usa/illinois/chicago/wrigleyfield/?cam=wrigleyfield_hd

This is interesting because the temperatures in the area last night were on the high side and the reports from Liverpool and Hawarden were of rain showers.

Crosby reports were missing at the time, but now show temp/dew point 4.1c/-0.4c at 3am and 3c/0.4c at 4am with rain in both reports.

Later on there was some sleet at Hawarden and light snow at Shawbury, with reports of a dusting for parts of Shropshire and east Wales but not much to get excited about.

it was definitely snow. I too was surprised it was snow as the temp was 4° so It was never going to settle. Was definitely snow though.

As like last year managed more snow on hols than at homeattachicon.gifimage.jpg typical ...

I am glad you managed to get up to the top. It wasn't possible when I went to Teide because of the wind and snow showers.
