Satellite imagery of the small Low just of the East Coast of Scotland.

Doesn't appear to be that much PPN associated with it just yet. Could do with lots on its Eastern side so as it spins it slingshots it over the hills into the NW

Hi,

What do you think of the chances of me seeing some snow in Liverpool over the next couple of days it would be nice to get something from this cold spell.

same, I remember as a Child seeing the weather and it saying minus 3 with a wind chill of minus 10. Today we had 5 degrees with a wind chill of minus 1 and this is considered the big freeze. It shows the level of our Climate change (natural or otherwise not for me to debate) in such a short space of time.

The winter index that I use and it struck me this, that 5 of the last 7 winters including this have surpassed all the dire winters of late 80s to the mid 2000s.

Last winter was rock bottom but the other mediocre winter 2011-12 out of the last 6 actually would have been one of the "better" winters of that dire grouping if it fell in that period.

I love this forum, glad I signed up will keep me entertained in the winter months, some people come out with some funny stuff sometimes. I jest about not seeing snow, I'm used to the Wirral missing out. However when I was a kid in the 80's I always used to remember snow a lot more frequent than now.

same here seemed like every winter would always get decent snow

Because of the instability in the N'ly flow little troughs and depressions can seemingly form out of nowhere.

There looks to be quite a few kinks in the isobars showing up in the charts for the next few days.

So can't say with any amount of certainty but there's chance something will crop up in the flow. Just hope we get lucky.

Do you think features could set up in this northerly flow I thought is is supposed to be an unstable northerly flow so what is stopping the ppn forming - can't snow events appear at short notice in this pattern ala 2010?

Luke

Oh I see now from your post above it is a case of being patient to see if anything occurs!  Thanks for your reply.

The flow only turned N'ly this afternoon. So yes just have to wait and see.

Personally I find lowland NW away from the hills rarely gets much in a N'ly set-up.

You will always have the chance of coastal showers from time to time.

I agree, I don't do an index and must also bare in mind that I have lived in 3 different locations since I left the West Midlands in the naugties, but apart from last one, all since the 09-10 winter have delivered much more snow than the dire ones of 98 to 08.

what is interesting is the sudden drop in the dp, now at -0.4C and the temperature at 2.7C, it is sudden because the dp dropped from 4.7C 20 minutes ago.
