Just woke up and there's moderate snow falling, just a sprinkle on the cars though not amounting to much.

Woke up another covering of snow, only a cm or so but better than nothing and maybe more on offer today.

This is turning into a decent second half to winter in these parts with the only negative being the inability of the temperatures to fall away at night.

Maybe that will change when a true arctic sourced airstream arrives.

IMHO the bigger surprise was actually getting a warning in the first place and seeing it removed wouldn't raise eyebrows.

We don't normally get anything from a northerly unless troughs are present, just to far inland.

What I do find strange with this northerly is that when a strong northerly happens, it's usually really calm, yet it's quite gusty out there.

Yes, it seems that frosts rather than snow (or any kind of precipitation) will be the focus of the remainder of the cold spell. Tonights showers are mainly for the east of the Pennines and Tuesday's trough won't even reach us.

At least the Pennines should keep their snow cover for several days.

Looks like the showers will miss us tonight and stay too far east :(

Also worth noting, a standard northerly doesn't usually drive showers down the centre and western part of Scotlandto Glasgow - I presume this is due to a slight westerly element to the wind?

Well after pointing out there MAY be SOME snow showers making their way throught the region later & tonight, my thought has gone away from this now and it looks fairly dry to me tonight apart from the odd rogue snow shower. The Met O still go for sleet & snow showers later (maybe they see something we don't, they normally update their forecast between 2pm to 4pm, any warning changes will be this morning normally) but I'm not so sure now. Anyway here is the latest predicted radar for tonight, not good viewing for us coldies.

PS it will remain very cold though, but too early to be predicting snow for next week with any certainty. Have a good day all!

The clouds here seems it is coming from the NNE here, even though the BBC put me down a north-westerly.

Well, there goes the weather warning, and reserved now for the least coast, which is what is typical of a northerly like this.

Still patchy cloud here and some blue skies.
