I just heard 40 cars stuck in IOM on the mountain top due to heavy snow.

A tad exaggerated? A snow risk of 90% with that precipitation rate in the space of one hour?

Check out what we had to put up with today.

http://www.buxtonweather.co.uk/

Whaley Lane no better either despite the attempts by the DCC gritters and local Farmers to clear things through, still cars parked up at the kerbside at 5pm. side-roads especially Hill Drive and Reservoir Road up to nearly a foot in places.

I kinda want these sleety showers to move away now so we can get some cooling time before the PL moves in.

Yes, we need a quieter period where our temps and dp's can drop off, it's not helping we keep getting sleet showers.

There is a slight hope later, but it will depend on the wind direction...so far its not playing ball with us.

Had cleared the drive this afternoon only for the last shower about 10 minutes ago just dropped another 3/4 " in 15 minutes.

Looks to be a long shaped shower stretching from Lancaster to Bolton heading towards Oldham and on the southern edge me.

Further more that circulation heading down from the West of Scotland looks to be heading through the North West and into the Peak District.

Anyone else see that track?

Seems the GFS want us at 4/5C tonight by the time that LP arrives, and it also seems the DP will be over marginal.

MNN wants that heavier snow across Morecambe and then diagonally southeast towards and across manchester and very little to southwest (merseyside, west cheshire) of it.

For people live in high ground like High Peak I recommend to watch this:

Just in case. Some places may get a foot of snow.

Might be an idea to keep an eye on the Scotland, and Ireland regional threads, as this feature moves southwards over these areas.

It does look like we are looking at a low pressure system which will detach itself from the main low, becoming a cut off low. Whether it's a Polar Low by strict definition is very blurred.. but it will no longer be baroclinic in nature soon, and will rely on the thermal properties of the Irish sea to derive its energy. It could be a Polar Low, but the thing that matters is that it looks like delivering some rain, sleet and snow for our region.

I've cross referenced the current location of the low v the projected track using the high resolution net weather model.

I've uploaded it to YouTube

Snow map: http://youtu.be/2LXEhqoI-MY

Track seems about right so far to me a touch further east.

I thought Diana did a good job she used the word snow only, she said it will fall where it wants and to expect 2 to 3 cm on low level and 5cm on high routes. Tomorrow is a rain event apart from high ground. I thought she did a good job. Usually she tell you its rain even if it's snowing outside.

I thought she did ok, highlighting the risk. You can't take the computer generated graphics 100% literal, some places are already seeing sleet so she's right.
