I notice not many people in kent posting. Gutted at the radar looks as if i am too far east for this chunk of snow. Our part of se england is c**p for snow so far. Hoping for a surprise in the morning but all poss falls of snow in recent weeks have not happened so not optimistic about this time.

Good luck to those who do get it.

I hope so too ppn looks to be taking a more southerly route now

The wind map suggests the winds are kicking nor'easterly in the south midlands... Could be good news for our region...?

Just looked up the halo phenomenon

What makes a halo around the sun or moon?

There’s an old weather saying: ring around the moon means rain soon. There’s truth to this saying, because high cirrus clouds often come before a storm. Notice in these photos that the sky looks fairly clear. After all, you can see the sun or moon. And yet halos are a sign of high thin cirrus clouds drifting 20,000 feet or more above our heads.

These clouds contain millions of tiny ice crystals. The halos you see are caused by both refraction, or splitting of light, and also by reflection, or glints of light from these ice crystals. The crystals have to be oriented and positioned just so with respect to your eye, in order for the halo to appear.

That’s why, like rainbows, halos around the sun – or moon – are personal. Everyone sees their own particular halo, made by their own particular ice crystals, which are different from the ice crystals making the halo of the person standing next to you.

More snow now than in the last 22 months. A good inch covering with more showers incoming and warning of a few more tomorrow morning. Given the warning for the heaviest showers isn't until Wednesday, I'm optimistic!

Snowing really heavily in MK at the minute. Nice covering on everywhere and still coming down hard. Looks like a Possibility of more showers working in overnight so might see a couple of inches by morning :D
