Cheers, look like you might experience more of the ones currently spawning over the Shropshire and Cheshire Plains.  Hopefully tonight might be interesting with a bit of luck.

Edit: more bangs and flashes with light rain.  Roads are now just about wet.

Thunderstorm alley, seen many a storm develop over North Salops into the Cheshire Plain. Always happens in a Spanish Plume with surface hot SEly and convergence zone as the cooler upper air pushies in from the west. One of the best places for thunderstorm development.

That storm was also a bit of a welcome relief actually. Before it, the temperature was still 28C and muggy and now it has fell to 21C. Even a heat lover like me couldn't sleep in those temperatures.

That was a cracking storm, over pretty quickly but plenty of lightning and shotgun thunder. Best storm I've seen for a number of years but it was no where near epic.

Heavy rain here, big blobs that smack you on the back of your head as you're trying to shut the door type, no thunder

atm

Even though we only got the edge of it, that storm was bloody amazing! Constant lightning and grape sized hail at one point. The structure of the clouds looked amazing.

Nick f over in the plume thread thinks the storm that passed over Skipton may have become a supercell.

Was this also not one of the Manchester storms too?

Still getting flashes and distant rumbles been a very good night for me here

Now time for bed.

Feels like last night's storm dropped a phenomenal amount of pollen. Double dose of antihistamine this morning just about making it bearable. Hopefully regular doses of coffee will keep me awake.

Bit of thunder and lightning in Preston last night but not directly overhead.  All the storms either passed to the east or the west of here.  We could see plenty of cg and cc lightning over to the east around 10.30 ish that continued for around 45mins as it trundled off N/NE.  We got a bit of heavy rain as well.  Was a good show to watch from a distance - must have been interesting to have been right under it.

Be nice to feel some summer weather again tomorrow. BBC graphics are insanely good for us Friday night/early Saturday morning, big bright green echoes all over the north west with thunderstorm symbols.
