Hints already in the models of heat building across the whole of france in the last week of July, also showing maxes of 30 to 32C in South of UK and elsewhere hitting around 28.

I spent five days on the Isle of Man last week/weekend and after hearing some of the northerners' complaints on here, I was expecting the weather to be dire. Instead, the weather was very similar to down here in Bristol, just 5-6C cooler with a bit more breeze i.e. plenty of sunshine and it only rained on Monday. I think weather must just get stuck in certain parts of the north hence such downbeat comments. I don't know how much truth there is in the comment, but somebody I know from Liverpool often says that rain moves through quickly in Liverpool then slows down over Manchester, often giving Liverpool the better weather (he's not very knowledgeable about weather in general though).

It is perhaps marginally drier in Liverpool but it's certainly windier and feels colder than Manchester. Obviously with a coastal location the nights will be milder and you would expect sunshine levels to be slightly higher. In warm spells Manchester tends to do better due to its inland location and protection from sea breezes. I was in Liverpool on Wednesday and with the NW wind blowing it certainly felt noticeably cooler in Liverpool.

The differences are more pronounced from west to east than north to south IMO. Bristol and Leeds for example are very similar in terms of summer temperatures despite Bristol being nearly 200 miles further south. Bristol is also wetter than Leeds, but sunnier.

Dunno about Liverpool itself but Crosby in north Liverpool has nearly identical rainfall to Manchester but no sunshine stats.

Yet another rubbish weekend. Both days were meant to have decent amounts of sunshine but were appallingly cloudy. Drizzly and cool now too. It’s just depressing beyond words.

The last month has been atrocious. Horrifically cloudy with another dire week coming up. 30-day running sun total down to a dismal 121.6 hours (74% of average) compared to 135.6 hours for the 30 days to 12th February and rainfall has been almost double the average. The 2nd to 8th July was by far the wettest summer week in my records, with 77.8mm, beating the previous record of only 58.0mm for week ending 23rd June 2012.

Pretty much assured that this will be the 8th summer out of 9 to be wetter than average.  An absolutely lamentable run without precedent in modern records. Just when are we going to get out of this garbage pattern of sunny snowless winters followed by dull wet summers? Truly detestable and can’t think of a worse era to be living in for weather. It’s the absolute pits  :wallbash:

Today wasnt meant to be anything special but apart from 30 mins rain late morning its been fine and warm at 22c. You can still get decent enough days from average looking charts.

A messy week ahead, that said I wouldn't be surprised if 25C was hit every day this week somewhere, especially towards the south east. Whilst fronts will be a plague, I suspect the drier slots will allow some sunshine through and the temperatures at 850hpa level are conductive for very warm conditions to occur if you get the sun of course.

The north look much simple with the first half of the week quite fresh with some showers before some heavier rain Thursday and a cooler and windy day on Friday.

Come back June, all is forgiven! You were actually quite a decent month compared to the cloudy, showery, thunderless, SE v the rest-ridden dross fest that July is becoming.

The sun seems incapable of staying out for more than 4 hours at once this month, it tries to get warm when it does but cant manage it because the cloud wont stay away. And there is that wind, other than the odd day it hasnt left us alone since late April. At least in June the wind seemed to bring brighter weather often than not. Now its just cloud. Hope August can be decent for once......

Not that bad here IMO. All but three days above 20C, 5 above 25C. Most days have also seen a reasonable amount of sunshine. Only one day was cloudy - but still not 0 hours.

Major complaint is that some days started off nice but by around 5pm it clouded over, or started raining - admittedly for only half an hour or so but still not welcome.

2014 was better round here, it was consistent all month while 2013 had 10 days of warmth and nothing else. Combined with a sunny June, 2014 was definitely the best summer since 2006 for me, it would have been an excellent one but for that dreadful August.

With 3 good Augusts in the 80's,1983,84 and 1989

4 good ones in the 90's ,1990,95.96 and 1997 ,we are well overdue another good one with only 2003 a stand out August in the last 18 years.

why do you consistently lie? unless you live up a mountain?. July 2013  and 2014 were excellent.. Halifax isn't far from leeds. So gets the same weather. if you think  the last 2 julys have been poor. Then you've been out the country..

The first poor summer's day for a good while here, but the garden badly needs the rain.

Disgusting day. I don't believe the gardens badly need the rain at all even in the south. It hasn't been that dry. It should be drier in July!
