Well it's finally fizzling out, 5 inches in total in 3 hours, not a bad start to winter 

 theThere was even trees brought down across the road from me, due to the weight of the heavy, sticky snow

The temperature gradient is indeed massive today. We're currently sat at 10.9C whereas 50 miles north its 0-3C.

Looks like it'll be pretty brief though as the system is now pivoting.

Temperature shot up to 10c+ earlier but we are now back down to 3.1c again!  And still the rain falls.....

Back in the cooler air again. We just had a drop of 3C in 6 minutes, quite unusual in this area.

Down to 6.8C after a max of 10.9C just half an hour ago.

Some local flooding around here, drains haven't coped well. Relative just drove home and reported about 2 feet of standing water.

River Aire in Leeds on flood warning. Not surprising considering the river levels are shooting up.

2.7c here now but still not even a hint of sleet.  We must be heading towards twelve hours of falling rain here now.  The garden is like a swamp!

I dread to think what the roads will be like tomorrow morning if everything freezes over!

EA Flood Warnings now in place for Leeds City Centre from Kirkstall to the Royal Armouries.

River Aire flooding already at Armouries.

Been some serious flooding upstream on the Aire so its not surprising. E.g. Wharfedale, Gargrave, Crosshills, Steeton, Silsden, Sutton-in-Craven, outskirts of Keighley. Lot of places have been badly hit and really weren't expecting for it.

 

Note EA only raised the flood warnings when it had already started to flood, they were also caught unaware, the short term high res models really got this wrong.

Rain stopped so  no chance of back edge snow.

Just had a look at the charts for tomorrow and no chance of any snow here  either when the front moves back north.

Now I know car outside temperature readings are not overly accurate, but driving from Meadowhead Sheffield at 5.15 car read 11c but by time I had reached Manor Top Sheffield (about 2-3 miles distance) temp was down to 4c.  That's a massive drop in a very short distance.

Coldest night of the season with bone chilling low of -1.5c. Yesterday's system reminded me of last years boxing days event, last year I was too far North, this year I just missed out to the South. Drove back from Scotland yesterday and took 9 hours due to road closures, amazing to see some decent accumulations at near sea level, this was scotch corner last night, yet 40 miles south even with 1000ft + elevation... Zilch!
