good afternoon everyone, its nice to be reading that some people are about to witness something more akin to winter rather than early spring, feeling very mild here and have a hunch that this will be the tale of the season, very mild, wet at times.  personally i am a coldie but with it so mild and forecast to remain that way over the next 16 days or so there is a chance of the BBQ and pizza oven being used over the festive period.  hopefully mother nature will balance things out in the new year and give us coldies something to be happy about.

Well not in Sheffield. Just run the latest GFS using netweathers will it snow guide and the answer for here is now. For North Yorkshire if the rain gets that far it looks good. Local forecast going for Snow as well.

Sheffield might do okay of this, the latest EURO4 suggests some lying snow

A wet day coming hopefully rain enough to allow me to soap the car down and have a natural rinse.

2.8c and steady rain can be summed up in one word.  Miserable!

yes looks like a complete bust. Just too warm unfortunately. Only green and pink on radar is well to the north :(

Was hoping this would be a repeat of boxing day. Looks like the front is a lot further north though, its pushing into Scotland now and the only chance we had of snow was if it stayed to plan and didnt get too far north. Ah well, you cant win em all!

Never was going to happen here unless you were very high up i.e fox house where it was snowing earlier on. Johns Holmes guide on this is excellent and has let me down only once when it was marginal event. Used it several times when the Beeb and Met said Snow and it quickly confirmed they were smoking something.

Rain turning to snow across Northern parts of the region. Temperature has dropped to 1.c in higher parts of Leeds.

Sheffield looks a little too far south for snowfall.

Yes the Dales look white at the moment.  The webcam at Hawes looks very wintry.

Temperature has actually risen slightly here but the rain just keeps coming.

Wonderful...not!

the only slight hope is that there looks to be a few hours of ppn to come yet from the west so itl be going dark in a few hours which may help. Probably only chance is some back edge snow as it clears SE.

A cold night to come though by sounds of it, could be icy!

Warmer just pushing into the region here I expect the temperature drop in Leeds to be short affair.  back edge snow is only hope here and out side chance tomorrow but doubtful

Well I went out for a drive, caught some heavy snow around Queensbury around 10am but it turned to sleet and icy rain as I headed for Skipton. Saw how far north it was going on the Netweather snow radar so had a dash across to Harrogate and joined the A1 at Ripon. Quickly turned back to snow even at that level and was going to go across masham way to the dales where I'm sure there would have been a good covering but realised I had already done 150 miles with the drive home still to come so called it a day! Here's hoping for better luck next time..

Fingers crossed PIT. BBC says rain and sleet pushing up but depending how cold it gets tonight will make the difference I guess?

It shows a sharp drop off this evening so maybe temps will plumet back as fast as they rose this afternoon :)

Temperature here is dropping like a rock, now at 1.4C. Looks like the met got this bit right and as soon as the rain will stop it will be below freezing - driving is going to be a nightmare.
