Very strange out there tonight. Just pulled up back home and although car reads 8c and type radar shows rain, it is definately sleeting and hailing!!

Can only assume the very strong and gusty wind is driving what would be snow very high up down to lower levels before its had chance to fully melt....

Had the opposite a couple of hours ago driving back from Huddersfield.

Temperature dropped to 4c during a heavy shower near Emley but was rain all the way. Not even a hint of wintriness.

Car thermometers aren't worth taking any notice often miles out. If you were in a very heavy shower it' spossible the air temp got low enough for some sleet although I suspect it was hail you were seeing.

Interesting, im sure thats as high as here or even higher maybe? Maybe was just intensity that brought some hail down to my level

True, it was probably dropping lower than that as it was a very heavy shower. Ill go for mostly hail with some 'splatty stuff' on the windscreen. Still gusty up here at the moment too.

Tomorrow morning looks a bit horrible for our neck of the woods....

Temperature down to 4.3c here and showers still rattling through. Feels absolutely bitter in the wind!

A pretty miserable start to the working week coming up as well...

Quite a temperature contrast going on across Yorkshire at the moment...

13c being recorded at Doncaster and only 6c being recorded at Leeds!

EDIT

5c now at Leeming and 14c at Doncaster.  Pretty amazing really!

Epic squall line just pushing through now. Wind is very strong around this. Rain sounds incredible on the window. Good times :D

Just been browsing the Met Office automated forecast for our area and there is a suggestion of a few hours wintriness on Saturday night.

Not seen any TV forecasts backing this up though so probably not to be relied upon.

We could be in for a repeat of boxing day last year. I hope so anyway! It sounds very similar. Rain pushing up from SW into cold air. intensity will help evaporative cooling. We could get pummeled again :D:cold:

Significant snowfall for Saturday afternoon across a wide part of central Yorkshire.

Freezing level right down to 100m, expect accumulations right down to sea level though anywhere below 150m it is likely to be transient in nature
