Brilliant rotation on this thing. Must be the mesocyclone associated with this beast.

More cells going up to the South, the main storm is over Yorkshire, looking real nasty on the radar

Unbelievable constant rumble of thunder. I thought it was an aircraft at first but Wow.

Very strange indeed

Funny how these storms have gone from heading NNE to more NNW west as they get closer to newcastle. I swear newcastle is the stom capital of england! lol

I noticed that they were taking a more NW track but then change to a NE track - must be wind direction.

Constant rumble of thunder for the last half hour now with what sounds like gun shots bangs every so often

The thunder is definitely the talking point.. it's constant. Just unrelenting. Lightning is barely there - and boy, that leading edge was powerful stuff. Seriously, the heaviest rain I've seen in years.

Nice new cell developed between Loughborough and Nottingham, should track close to our locations :D That'll be my fifth observed thunderstorm of the afternoon should it materialise, and potentially 3rd overhead. Not had a day like this in a number of years.

The majority of the cells are medium-based indicating that it's more a case of topographic lifting than CAPE initialization, for the Pennines at least.

Small but very wet storm in Bristol about an hour ago. Heard a lot of booming thunder and saw lightning flickering to the south and west but central Bristol didn't get anything overhead, just shed loads of rain.

Now back in Yatton where the neighbour has just said it was pretty loud with tropical-style rain. All calm and still, waiting for something to kick off again so I can perhaps film it.

That cell is getting going nicely now, just waiting for its first Strike

Scratch that, here we go again!

A couple of pics of some nice convective cloud in Solihull earlier. Also had a heavy shower around 4 with some monster-sized raindrops. Almost looked like it was sleeting.

In fact, looking at the radar and it looks like some parts of the Midlands have been doing quite well with home-grown heavy and thundery showers.

Let's hope there's some further surprises to come, most particularly for the storm enthusiasts who have seen nothing.

Having a good day in Harrogate, watched one from a distance and just got nailed by one.

Bit of sun and blue sky poking through now.

Looks like it maybe just starting to erupt in the south east of scotland (as Nick F forecasted) Now what consequences that has for us later awaits to be seen
