Wann see those come down a touch more for settling snow

Cold dew points moving southeast...

By 3pm bulk of region has sufficent dew points,

thankfully the precip will arrive in more 'fertile' conditions for snow,

Some reports of heavy snow in the far north regional

3PM -

Also a little tip for people, you can tell how cold the DP is and air temp buy how quickly things dry out on the ground, it makes no sense I know but the lower the DP quicker things dry out (dryer air at cold temps)

You are correct there.

On my many visits to Moscow the air is very cold and dew point very low so anything that doesn't freeze drys out very quickly, strange but true.

No doubt if even half a mm falls in your region it'll make the national news with "Snowmaggeden" headlines.

I fear for the Eastern areas on those charts...

I agree about the far east of our Region - but I suddenly realised I don't know where the boundary is between our Region and the 'Midlands' and 'Central Southern' Regions. Anyone know please?

The mild sector seems to be just out to sea Norfolk coastal locations will most likely see just rain/sleet an onshore wind for them, so you'll need to be inland not greatly. In fact the parameters are quite good this evening for London, SE & EA - just need the precip to behave. It is fairly reminiscent to a winter day last winter?

Between Green & Yellow bit is 'Central Southern'.

Wouldn't rule out an Ice Day Monday, -10 850Hpa's flirts close to the East, -6 925Hpa's with a continental airmass it's very much possible.

Snow shower here around half an hour ago, which was unexpected.  It didn't lay, but, given the conditions at present, I wasn't execting any more than sleet.

Warm sector is easily visible on that chart, I have outlined it here..

Temp here now is 3.4 with a dp of 1.8.

So colder than forecast for today so far, 6 which may bold well for later, depending on dp and precipitation.

Way to early to be worrying about Dps imo, count the amount of times they have tumbled or risen in a short space of time.

Reason I say this is because I remember a time ( can't remember the year ) when we was set for snow, the charts showed -2 dps yet when it arrived the Dps were +3

Yep happens to us all the time, all depends on where that warm sector ends up when the ppn arrives, before that doesn't matter one bit.

Do not agree with you there..sub zero DP in Thames Estuary?

image.thumb.jpeg.0b2ed6af996faef0825448e

The area circled in black I feel will be the least likely to see snow based on humble GFS, of course if it is further west than the mild sector will correspond, we'll just have to see.

Would add that models don't take into account wind direction and SSTs when predicting temp and DP

Looking at the radar I definitely think there's scope for East Anglia and perhaps & Kent to see something quite significant surprised there are no warnings.

A lot of precipitation and it's not light either, slowly going SSE?

Even if conditions are OK for snow this afternoon in my location it looks like a 'miss' from that ppn moving south.

Eastern counties might get a surprise later - Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and east Kent

I am wondering with the current eastward drift of the system whether some will even see any precipitation at all??

so is all this PPN snow?  It looks like we (and probably not me) may get a chance as temps and dp's drop.

Use the Netweather Radar and turn the "Weather Type" at the top of the map to "On". Shows rain blue, sleet green and snow pink. :)
