I wouldn't worry too much just yet. The MetO 3 month contingency for winter said winter would be mild but unexceptional. Didn't pick up on December craziness, said that the second half of winter would be colder, yet we're into the second half now and places are still recording daily temp records.

The 2nd half has been colder so far, even though it has turned milder again since Friday the first week of the 2nd half was considerably colder.

Interesting rain shadow effect from Burnham On Sea towards Glastonbury is very evident on the Net Weather rainfall accumulation for the last 6 hours.

Official title for weather here...minging. Just walkes best part of a mile due south straight into the wind and rain!! Ugh.

T 9.3C

1006mB and falling

Wind speed 23 mph gusting into low 40s.

I have to go out on the return journey later. I expect I'll get there twice as fast as I got here

Yes. Possibly a 'drier' hour or 2 first thing but squally wind and showery rain for much of the day. Thursday looks beautiful, frosty/icy start and a sunny day.

Cloudy, mild and breezy with slight rain.Temp of 12C and wind SW 25mph gusting 40.

At the moment it's looking as if there is just the odd band of rain moving W-E and nothing much in total. Certainly not on a par with yesterday.

Ha, need a dislike button. That is ridiculous.

still, at least things are looking encouraging in terms of cold possibilities into the next week.

Hmmm..........i'll believe when I see it K.

Be prepared for an abundance of words today in the Mad discussion thread along the lines of:

"building blocks", "these charts have potential", "cold zonal", "the best this winter", "another 1947?" and other NW classics.

Morning.

The pigeons are nesting and the blackbird boys are fighting. The frogs are auditioning for a re-mix release with Paul McCartney and the owls are staking their claim to their tree for the summer. Wildlife awakening after enduring the long, cold, record breaking, two day winter.

If it carries on like this the Springwatch team will be out in force and a crotchety Chris Packham will be grumbling his winter holiday has been cut short.

If there's a rustling in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now...it'll be Bill Oddie

Disgustingly mild start to the day, on a par with some mornings in early December and November. Also a bit drizzly. Haven't had as much rain as other areas with 11.4mm yesterday and only 0.6mm so far today. Looking forward to the 'cold snap' tomorrow which will simply be 'nearer but still above average' lol.
