Feels much warmer today, temp has been rising since 11pm last night, now up to 8c.
Gloomy grey skies, light SSE wind.
1020hPa, been steady at that for a few days now.
No rain so far this week except a little drizzle Monday, but tomorrow looking like heavy rain for most of the day, but a fairly dry and warmer weekend.

And it's back to grey murk again, deep joy.

Leaving aside the lack of snow, it's the total lack of blue skies which I've found the most depressing this winter; day after day of total cloud cover. Thoroughly depressing.

Absolutely. The last few days have been very welcome in that respect

Hate to have to say it but we are running out of winter again... nothing really looking cold into first week of February by which point we have 2/3 weeks chance of something noteworthy before sun starts to get stronger and being in mildest place in UK we are against the clock, before you know it 3 back to back snowless winters... :cc_confused:

March 2013 was exceptional in terms of cold but also an exceptional bust for west country with no proper snow falls.

Don't despair as I.F  said there could well be mid Atlantic blocking in Fairbury putting us in a north-westerly northerly airflow.

If I'm honest he seems to have been really accurate when he is predicted patterns for 1 to 2 months in advance .  I'd say they have been more accurate with that then I have with really short time forecasts with regards to snow .   When we get the usual low pressures of the Atlantic interspersed with showers and sunshine they are very accurate but when it comes to snow they do have a lot of problems even at short term.  Like I say though for the past few years I.F  seems to me have been pretty accurate for 1 to 2 months in advance for general weather patterns  so hats off to him and let's hope his   February  prediction comes to fruition !!

After a mucky start, it's pretty nice out there at the moment. We seem to have been sat in a gap in the clouds for most of the morning.

Yes John it is surprisingly beautiful at the moment and, it has to be said, feeling very Springlike!

Perhaps that was winter? I had 5 days with maxxes not reaching 5c and several harsh frosts including the lowest temperature for nearly 4 years. However with today's change allied to how it looks going forward nature can get back to progressing with Spring!

Maybe we can get the name changed to the "MOOD" thread rather "MOD, MAD...."

And the sun is still shining, now at 8.5°C

It's absolutely doom and gloom in there today! Avoid it if you value your mental health

So were heading for a mild or very mild weekend in the west country  some brighter spells and some rain. But please don't  take the recent mild weather charts to heart because as we all know they will change again tomorrow. Im thinking February will see temps below average at times with some frost and some snow. Nothing exceptional but more seasonal and march too.

Well you know it's gone Pete Tong for coldies when you see The Strat thread full of model posters lol. I go in the Strat thread to get an update maybe twice a week, as it interests me a lot and I want to learn from the few extremely knowledgable posters. far be it from me to say, but I do think it waters down what is really a very very complex area of Meteorology seeing people clutch at straws in the Strat thread, not really interested in the science of it.

Hey ho, it will blow over. Not venturing in the Mod thread, no way :nonono:
