Love the fact the showers look like running well to the north of me.

Sun back out and feeling lovely in the spring warmth.. Hoping it holds out for this evenings run.

Haha!! The parting of the storms as they pass me by! But it's looking like Ipswich, 9 miles east, is getting a soaking and a few rumbles though.

That line of cells (in particular the inland ones) appear to be weakening as they drift north-east, which isn't really surprising given that they're moving into an area where the stratus cloud from the front lingered much later into the day (indeed, it thinned and lifted to cirrostratus but never really cleared here).  It's therefore not as much of a "loaded gun" atmosphere as further south and south-west, IMO.

EDIT:  Malcolm (BW) posted his similar comment while I was typing mine.

New storm just to the west of here, thunder every few mins.looks like going to miss us just to the north

It seems that the north Essex and south Suffolk coastal districts are the only areas north of the Thames with the requisite atmospheric conditions for cells to develop, as those which developed south and west of London have weakened at the same time as those you're seeing have appeared.

Yes, a good observation chrisbell. But from the Realtime Lightening Radar the Ipswich cell seems to be setting off up the A140 towards Norwich!

Will it run out of juice before it reaches you? Lightening Tues12April 17.05.jpg

Not so sure that a cell producing a strike on the line of the A140 that far south of here is heading my way, Malcolm; if you review the last few frames on Netweather radar, the cells are drifting north-east.  In fact, on closer inspection, the cell that's producing those strikes is heading for Southwold, not Norwich (though there is a shower on the way here).

You're right of course - it's nowhere near following the direction of the A140. It does seem to have Ed Stone's house in Beccles in its sights though!!

Oh well. Just a bit of fun to cheer up an afternoon! :)

:hi::D  There he was last Monday evening moaning that that lot of storms were avoiding him (mind you, I noticed the following morning that he posted about having had something the previous evening after all!)

EDIT:  I notice there's a cell appearing over Thetford Forest that's disproved my hypothesis about atmospheric conditions inland not being conducive to storm development.

Very dark here now and heard some distant thunder most likely over Beccles way

Depending on how big it is, I think it's going your way; though maybe a bit too much of an eastward vector? Let's hope not!:good:

Beautiful day here, but a massive shame that there was no heavy, thundery, showers. But, it was very warm today...

The hail from the earlier storm over Ipswich was the talk of the local weather presenter on the Beeb this evening. One of the pics shown:

I saw that a few minutes ago.  I can't say I'm surprised given the radar from earlier.

Well the morning here was dire and it took until late afternoon to actually see some sunshine as the high cloud just kept lingering on. After all that not a shower in sight.

Struggled to shift the cloud today until about 6pm so the temps were suppressed. Still mild enough at 14.8C, but what could have been...
