6c here and moderate rain

Height is always the key. I can see nothing wintry yet

Thoroughly miserable day here, especially as the rain has set in. Good time to take all the Christmas decs and tree down. Got a real tree this time, potted and rooted. No needle drop, they said. You can plant it out after, they said.....

What an absolutely miserable start to the New Year...the weather really needs a kick up the weeble! (referring largely to the winter).

Happy New Year everyone on NW! :drunk-emoji:

Happy New Year everyone.

Temp has fallen away quickly in the last 2 hours, down from 7.1C to 4.4C. Feeling really raw outdoors now. The latest radar shows a tiny shower of sleet & snow 'up North' but nothing on the back edge of the front over us - I think it's just cold rain for us.

Not quite lol -

I think people take a lot out of context when requoting me -

In a nut shell overall the prospects certainly for HLB dont look great - & with MLBs there hasnt exactly been any with enough amplitude to serve the UK with any meaningful cold-

The prospects within the Strat jet indicate that more of the same is on the cards for Jan - of course that doesnt rule out something like a MLB in the atlantic allowing for a cold Northerly - this would include the best case scenario - an MLB that topples over to Scandi & then gets undercut -

That can all happen within a poor background AO & NAO

cheers-

Well its absolutely chucking it down here, the front has virtually drawn to a halt on the radar, turned really cold too. BUT its all rain, people should be seeing a few flakes by now mixed in on this sort of set up on the back edge, but its just not happening.....:(

Dew points are too high. 2 to 3 degrees above freezing. The E4 has subzero dew points across the entirety of the region by 0600 coinciding with no precipitation no doubt.

It seems the front is moving slower than the models thought, it's been back building here with heavier echoes. If only things aligned more favourably it could have been a decent snow event here, alas the search goes on.

So annoying!

The wave that formed has really pepped up PPN as the front ground to a halt, at times the rain band seems to have actually moved back North. Ideal for a bit of evap cooling I would have thought but alas, temps/DPs remain too high for even a flake or two, all rain here still.
