Seems a bit extreme. Though June 2007 was 100mm in 24 hours?  Models don't rule that possibility out for tomorrow (though heaviest rain much more focused on east facing slopes). Will also depend on how saturated the ground is. We've not seen any exceptional rain in the last several weeks. Either way definitely some flooding risk in the next 48 hours!

Nope not the day it flooded we got just over 65mm in 48 hours between the 24th and 25th. To the north of us more.  The wettest spell was from the 13th to the 15th when 124.1mm fell. Ironically it didn't flood then. However it carried on raining most days in-between with another 36mm added.  Western park recorded 283mm  for the month as they caught more Thunderstorms than we did.

Looks very serious if that comes off.  Given the defences in Sheffield we'll be worried here downstream about the impact.  The river level for Doncaster only goes out predicted 36 hrs where it's currently predicted to be the highest ever. Let's hope that is wrong.  If those levels come off it could be disastrous for the area.

Thanks, so the ground would have bene very saturated!

Will be interesting to see how close to reality those forecast river levels are. You'd think EA would be warning

Some of the significant river gauges that the Environment agency operates are connected to their own model to predict the measurements. Believe it just uses the UKV for predicted rainfall, so it's very dependent on what that is showing to predict the expected amounts at those stations.

Think it's only a handful of stations on the Calder and the Don in our region have the functionality.

That is 2m above the previous record. Got to hope now the model is throwing a wobbly.

Predicted levels have dropped a bit with the latest UKV update. Will be a nowcast, though with amber warnings some localised flooding definitely seems likely in prone places!

We have been awoken by the rain. Already our streams are topping. Looking at the local river gauges already, a couple of brooks and rivers are past the floor marks locally, which given the worst isn't expected till after 7am is very worrying.

Significant increase in the number of flood warnings and watches in our patch overnight from the Lincolnshire fens to the eastern dales. Today’s going to be a long day for a lot of us.

30mm already overnight and it's going to rain all day! Amber warning doesn't even start until midday and goes into tomorrow. It's very worrying and certainly a test for the new flood defences since 2007.

We had 25mm Wednesday night too.

Stay safe everyone, it's very windy as well. Just have to hope for the best with any flooding but it's concerning 🥺🤞

Daily bike ride already cancelled. Been down to Beverley this morning and quite a bit of debris on the roads now, driving rain and spray, it was quite unpleasant. May venture down to Brid Harbour later to try and get some pictures.

Hope the powers that be in Rotherham are keeping an eye on this, as most of the heaviest rain so far has been falling on the catchment areas that run into the Don / Rother.

The don at meadowhall is rising quickly, could become critical if the rain maintains its intensity.

Nearly 30mm of rain so far today - seems the worst of it is in SY and Lincolnshire. Radar / models suggest 40mm to 60mm a reasonable landing point for here, considerably more on the east facing slopes (especially Peak District).

For Sheffield river levels there is a marked difference between the ones with dams (e.g. loxley)  and the ones without (e.g. porter brook). Thankful that the dams were not full as they seem to be keeping the don lower.

the Sheaf and Porter Brook look worrying

Sheaf at Dore is already over 2007 levels

I returned to Cheshire last night for an appointment today, but Mrs FLT decided to stay put at Whitby until Babet departs the scene tomorrow (fingers crossed). I'm getting a running commentary from the NY coast and it seems that it is every bit as bad as forecast both in terms of rain and wind. I'm hoping I may get some pics of the waves in the North Sea, apparently they are spectacular, as to be expected. The Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry goes past twice a day and I can't imagine that it's any fun being on board today. Flood warnings along the N Sea coast, particularly around Sandsend, and clearly the authorities have got this particular event spot on in terms of prior warnings.

Breaking records here river sheaf at highest level ever as is Porter brook. Interesting they reduced the expected level at River Don at lady bridge. We shall see.
