Thick fog around the Mersey now. Nice to hear all the fog horns getting in some practice before midnight

The conditions on the higher parts of Rossendale are as good as I’ve seen them for several winters.

we did a decent walk at the Bacup and Whitworth end of the valley yesterday and the only thing that spoilt it was foggy conditions although when things did occasionally clear and the hills came into view they looked spectacular.

at other times though the scenery looked quite brooding.

I went to Peel Tower but not much snow there. Turned around and went back to Clough Head.

Well the app I use has the snow /sleet/rain moving down and fizzling out. I actually have no idea whether it will make it and if it does what it will be.

It's all a bit tepid. We've had great synoptics but due to a lack of deep cold we are not under 10cm+ of snow.

I'm not going to post this in the model thread but I can see where we are headed now.  The extended EC ensembles and GEFS have had me concerned for a while now and tonight's EC run confirms it in my eyes. We'll be in a mean W'ly flow by mid Jan.

You can mark this post too and quote me at the time.

So you reckon back to average temps by middle of jan? I personally think January will be very cold. But west is the trade wind and it’s the most common direction of flow in he UK, so you’re more likely to be correct than I am.

surely, SURELY we are overdue a cold winter with plenty of snow

I'm not in a good mood at all tonight, I can see this all going wrong.

But who knows.
