Scan not believe it just started snowing again here fascinating weather watching at the minute !

I believe you just took the dogs out and thought I was imagining it. Not much falling here but looking at the radar there are showers around!

Oh the irony, it’s snowing harder on a day where non was forecast than yesterday when we were under a weather warning.

unexpected and I’ve lost count on the number of days running where snow has fallen, it must be well in double figures now.

So as the sun sets on this cold spell and we enter a slightly more average/ milder blip of weather the stats for the last 2 weeks whilst not extreme aren’t too shabby either for the Cheshire plain compared to the mild stormy Atlantic sludge of recent winters:   -

Max snow depth: 6cm

Min Overnight Temp: -4c

Min Daytime Temp: 1c

Late January into February may well be the next thing to watch I don’t think winter is done with us just yet ❄️ ⛄️

Extraordinary scenes there, yes of course Madrid is very high up slow moving weather fronts and just about cold enough air gives scenes like that. Just like it did in Harrogate yesterday, that seemed the perfect area to be in.

On a local level, as expected Lancaster recieved a nice covering of snow, not huge amounts but at least a couple of CMs and it shows just how small differences in temperature can gave such varied results even just half a mile away.

Just to think yesterday could be the last time we see snow for a long time. I must say, for some, the cold spell went out with a bang, for others, a wimper and rather summed up the cold spell in general.

Yes. It's been pretty good here. The cold has been persistent with virtually no mild days here 30 miles inland but just a pity there wasn't more snow but that's due to the nature of where the band's lined up, the luck of the draw rather than lack of cold. Overall it's been better than the last couple of winters considering I've had about 4 seperate snow covers since early December. More than the previous two winters combined so a good result up to now. Still plenty of winter to go.

Great to see so many folk have had some very good snow events and snow cover. For whatever reason in this little corner of the world it has been poor. It has been cold but out of 7 or 8 regional events we've got something out of 1 or 2 at best. Certainly not had more than 5mm of snow cover. It says something when this current tiny shower, which is giving a covering, is a highlight of the past 12 days or so. Hopefully see some more in the coming weeks.

Yeah definitely - December and early January has been a mild Atlantic write off in recent years and last winter was pretty pathetic even by UK standards so the last few weeks have been great all be it very localised in terms of snowfall. A Feb 2012 style big freeze might be about to develop across Eastern Europe in the coming weeks - think the UK might get a glancing but snowy blow in a cold but unsettled pattern late January into early February but we’ll have to see don’t think Winter is done with us yet though by no means❄️⛄️

Weakest streamer in history in progress across the NW from the Ribble.
