The first band has passed over me with nothing to show but wet ground.  Hope the second wave is better as that was pathetic.

Definitely warming from the sea as temp is up to 2,3c here

I follow Neil Bradshaw's site at South Shields in these situations and while the surface wind has switched from a westerly to a north-westerly it is still blowing from the land, so it seems unlikely to be the warming effects of the sea at the coast.  There is a pool of warmer air (just creeping above -5C at the 850hPa level) moving over the region, so it's more likely to be a lack of elevation issue near the coast.

Thanks did not realise we were dropping below -5 850's ., I thought we were in the -7 to -8 region

Looking by the radar everything is either missing or fizzling before it reaches darlo. Oh well hopefully more chances in coming days.

Moderate sleet here.  Temp 2c dew point 1c

The poisoned chalice... precipitation comes, with a warm sector to ensure its rain 🤣

Yeah, 250m is pretty decent elevation. The Tow Law roadside camera is about 300m up and that's showing -0.3c.

Yeah, not saying I deliberately moved next to TV transmitter for snow....but it certainly wasn't to get channel 5 😉

Yeah you always get snow in these situations.  What we need is a true northerly where the showers hug 10 mile along the coast in streamers 🤣

Well thats the big blob gone.

I wonder if the warm sector will pass and the rest will be snow later.   Temp needs to drop another degree

One things for sure... its going to be an ice rink in the morning.

A little unlucky really on timings, if this happened 12 hours later after a very cold start to the night, could of been a light covering instead of wet ground!

Always think anything below - 8hpa wise is when it's guarantees to be of snow especially when winds are off shore. Its ashame we got all thdes great set ups yet no real significant cold to show for it.

The wind vectors aloft are pretty much N direction, if anything need slight NE for more lake effect. As the 850s fall should bring more into the game
