Alton - ST10 area

What a weekend.

The storm bought severe winds overnight on Friday leaving is without power for over 24 hours! Being in a rural spot relying solely on electric with 2 little ones… it wasnt so much fun. Topped off with disruption to the water supplies here meaning we had no water too til this afternoon.

That said the initial snow even bought wothbit around 8cm of snow! Being snow fans it was a nice surprise!

Then today! Weve had quite the day, snow started around 1pm and stopped around an hour ago but all in dumped a fresh covering of a further 7cm at measurment. Deepest snow on the grasses is around 15cm!

Now the powers back the Christmas lights are looking especially seasonal and the kids have had fun in the snow!

Wonder when the next event will be! Hope everyone who had the snow has enjoyed it!

Chill out tent was looking very chilled earlier! (loved it so much in lockdown last year I kept it ) Another positive of this weather is that I don’t need a bar fridge in the porch although roof snow melted really quickly as I admit my oil filled radiator makes it pretty cosy in there A1414BD4-B2B5-44C6-861F-B1A624083C5A.thumb.jpeg.7977afa59916651901ee333bc701ebb5.jpeg

Just catching up now after a busy weekend.

I mean...a good 5cm of snow up here yesterday, topped up by a good dusting this afternoon.

It's the last week of November.

What is there not to like?

It's all about dewpoints, I've seen it snow when surface temperature is about 5 degrees and dewpoints are well below freezing and conversely when dewpoints and surface temperatures are around 0c/32f I've seen it rain! Your area today has seen dewpoints at zero or just above...

The dewpoints seemed low enough round here today. But yes I have seen snow at 5C+ in April and rain at 0.5C in winter, even at -1C in Feb (yes you 2012) but today didnt seem like one of those.

And now it is actually snowing! But it's much lighter than the precip earlier and will struggle to stick at all as the ground is soaked and has probably warmed up thanks to that blasted rain

EC still not great, trended towards GFS in FI with Atlantic v east battle! but not trended towards GFS for Thurs/Fri, no snow looks possible on that model

According to Roger Brugge's site the dewpoint at Shawbury was -3 at noon and -5 at 6pm, it rained between those hours when it rose to +0.7 at 3pm, that's Shropshire. Now the light snow has stopped but it wasnt heavy or long lasting enough to leave anything, it's still wet roads and wet cold.

At one point it did seem that the game was in danger of being abandoned …

I thought the same, was concerned I wasn’t going to make it back to Stanmore ( I am a Leicester fan). Are you StAlbansFox on Foxestalk by any chance?

Signing out now, a great weekend guys ❄️

It’s the 1st day of Winter this forthcoming Weds, I did look into starting a New Midlands Discussion for Weds, it’s seems a member can’t start a new thread anymore....as ‘Feb 2021 onwards’ is a little long and outdated

I’m sure if I asked nicely, one of our Midland Mods will sort this

Kind regards, DWW

The water on the ground is freezing, no snow and all set up for an ice rink in the morning. Love from Shropshire which was the tourist office slogan a few years ago!

No seriously it was. It rained here even at higher elevations, snowed in Cheshire and Staffs and Brummieland and Evesham (which I thought was the no snow capital of the "West Midlands" based on Essan's posts) but just rained until we had half an hour of non-sticking snow when it was too late....
