Looking fairly robust that storm out in the channel.

I'm currently sat in the car and I have AM radio on in the background. I've managed to find a really quiet spot and it's cool to hear it match up perfectly with lightning maps

The wind is picking up here, and I can also see some clouds starting to bubble up thanks to the  moon

I'd like to hear from someone around Devon/Cornwall as that storm Is definitely elevated and should be visible from quite some distance

I wondered if something was brewing. There's been a sudden uptick in false strikes near here on lightningmaps

Just seen my first flash to my southwest

Its most likely from the cell south of Bournemouth/Poole

And again!

It was about 50km directly south of old Harry rocks!

I’m very happy to have been wrong on this occasion - great result so far

Still have a nagging feeling it won’t make it very far before it just turns into rain - but still good potential for anyone on the coast with a view across the water

All the radar returns appear to have been stunted, nothing able to grow.

That's one puny cluster of cells on the 15z UKV, but I'd take it! This is for 00z:Screenshot_20220411-200555.thumb.png.f2af789574bd590ce283d0cf76cbac59.png

Looks like it was on to something after all!

Just a little delayed that's all

That's me done for the night, it was actually a very pleasant evening, and I did manage to see two flashes, so not a complete waste of time, and hopefully just the start of a great storm season!

Over and out.

Some of the most fantastic storm structure I've ever seen, so despite no lightning that has cheered me up.

Rather a clunky post I'm sorry but fantastic sunrise storm structure this early in the year has really cheered me up.

Well that was a 100% flop. Good to start the convective season in the usual manner. (Not that much was expected off course)

Couple more photos

Black and white because I saw a painting of a storm in black and white and it looked cool and I think these do as well.

More just Asperitas clouds than storm structure, as you typically need supercells or at least very impressive thunderstorms to get what's defined as 'storm structure', still, nice to see

I thought they were those clouds I just didn't know how to spell that so I decided to say storm structure just for simplicity

Day 1 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Tue 12 Apr 2022 - 05:59 UTC Wed 13 Apr 2022

ISSUED 08:13 UTC Tue 12 Apr 2022

ISSUED BY: Dan

A rather messy forecast evolution is anticipated on Tuesday, as a plume of relatively high (albeit still notably lower than mid-summer standards) Theta-W plume continues to be drawn northwards across central and eastern Britain on the forward side of a weakening longwave trough - becoming especially focussed over eastern England by the afternoon, ahead of the cold front. Pulses of showery rain will accompany this plume, spreading northwards and while a few lightning strikes would be possible almost anywhere, very deep, moist profiles are expected which tends to limit buoyancy and hence lightning risk. Therefore, the best potential for lightning will be largely associated with surface heating and convergence during the afternoon and evening hours.
