Bugger, just skimmed us, but on it's way to Sevenoaks now where my friend is anticipating it's arrival. He sent me a pic of the skies there and it's getting darker and darker so he might get in on some action if it re-electrifies.

Thundersnow in Westgate earlier.

Crazy stuff, heavy graupel and a flash of lightning as it turned to snow.

Accumulation was a conglomerated mess of graupel and snow

MASSIVE Cb over london (I can see it from here in Crayford where I'm working today - it's got a huge anvil on it). Very dark skies underneath it and it's dropped a few strikes on lightningmaps. Getting darker here as it approaches...

Think it got here, but by then it only had those soft balls of snow in it. So I guess I've finally seen snow falling this year.

Hail here and some sleet occasionally mixed in as well, ignore my friends shouting in the first one, probably getting hit by the hail, hurt my head slightly but not big enough to more than annoy me

Day 1 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Tue 08 Mar 2022 - 05:59 UTC Wed 09 Mar 2022

ISSUED 09:37 UTC Tue 08 Mar 2022

ISSUED BY: Dan

A negatively-tilted trough will swing northeastwards across Ireland on Tuesday, coinciding with diurnal heating. This is likely to yield a few hundred J/kg CAPE with scattered showers drifting northeastwards across Ireland. Forecast profiles reveal some reasonable speed and directional shear, which may aid somewhat in organisation/cell longevity to produce some lightning and perhaps hail locally >1cm in diameter. Tentatively introduced a low-end SLGT for the afternoon/early evening hours, although the risk overall is considered below SLGT thresholds. The risk may also extend into W / SW Scotland during the evening.

Overnight, the next Atlantic frontal system will arrive from the west into Ireland with some embedded line convection.

This week's southerly flow and general set up w/ fronts gradually making inroads looks like it would've been great for thundery weather...if it had occurred in late April onward. Hopefully this type of set-up can repeat in the summer months. I even saw my first AC Cas of the year earlier, albeit not particularly defined.

Yes I noted in my SW regional thread that the sky looked plumey this morning. It was cool to see.

On occasion it's even happened later in March too. 2005 is a good example. Had frequent southerly or southeasterly winds in the second half that brought thunder.

I remember the late evening of 23rd March 2005 when I was living at Bulford near Amesbury, Wiltshire at the time. It was really quite lively. I understand that there had been thunderstorms over Spain earlier, so it presumably was to do with those.

Can I be the first to say this new 'storm season' that storms are firing just over the channel as per usual and the Southeast is left with light rain and drizzle...

There we go,I hope we here no more of this in 2022.

No rain Since St Patrick’s day and then wow.

just had a torrential shower of large hail. Some of the biggest hailstones I’ve ever seen. Amazed it didn’t electrify. That was unexpected. Wow.

Looks like there may be some good cloudscapes tomoz, lightning risk looks fairly limited but some good convection kicking about.

Shortwave trough moving east through the day, all dependant on surface heating though and looks quite disorganised.

Shear supports some strong wind gusts under the outflow of them.

Very large clap of thunder overhead and driving heavy rain that as of typing is quickly moving out. Dogs barking as usual. Just had another clap but already moving away very quickly. First thunder of the year of any kind and the first thunder I think since around the 7th of August - loudest thunder in April for many, many years. What a little firecracker squall line.
