Just now, LetItSnow! said:

Very large clap of thunder overhead and driving heavy rain that as of typing is quickly moving out. Dogs barking as usual. Just had another clap but already moving away very quickly. First thunder of the year of any kind and the first thunder I think since around the 7th of August - loudest thunder in April for many, many years. What a little firecracker squall line.

My colleague just reported thunder, lightning and hail in C.London, too (while I'm working from home - grrr!). Moving this way, so could get lucky and have my first thunder and lightning of the year - fingers crossed.

I've literally just heard a rumble at home in Bexleyheath so hopefully it's coming this way

nothing here yet, it has just been wind and rain but the skies are breaking up so there are chances to get some thunder

Think I’ve just heard a distant rumble, which will be my first of the year if so

Edit: Yep, definitely thunder

Mini-squall just beginning to clear here now - saw quite a few flashes (all IC/CC) and had several rumbles (some without an obvious flash).

Nice start to the 'storm season' - it was well into May before I had my first storm last year.

Good times.

Typical - Just brief heavy showers in Guildford. No thunder. Carry on of the 'no storms' nuisance of the last few years but especially 2020 and 2021. Thunder activity just too far away to be heard again - tantalizingly close. I really hope that Guildford gets a decent year for storms in 2022, something that has not happened since 2014, the last year with an above average number of days with thunder heard. The second major event in 2016 was missed while away on holiday in Cornwall. It could be guaranteed that if today's set-up had occurred when on holiday then there would have been thunder in Guildford. These days, more lightning and thunder occurs in the Arctic Circle than Guildford. The missing out would not be so bad if the thunder activity was not always so close to the area but just out of range.

Perhaps we could have a Storms grumble and moan thread page, like for the models, as I think it will be needed over the coming months and I will be visiting it frequently.

Has anyone been keeping an eye on Monday? Too early in the season to deliver much in the way of lightning?

A few popcorn cells firing up just to the north of me and some in mid Wales.

Heavy dumping of pea-sized hail here, lasted a while too! I'm gonna take that as a 'go' on the convective season...

Afternoon everyone.

I have to say that today is the first time this year that I’ve seen proper crisp and sharp convection getting going. ???

I know it’s really unlikely to go bang, but still nice to see. ?

Let’s hope that the 2022 storm season is a good and convective one for us all. ?????

This is currently my view looking north over the Wirral towards Liverpool/Warrington area.

Out walking the dog and suddenly there's a cell to the northwest organising itself and dropping my first lightning of the year!

Some unexpected lightning in the channel... shame I wasn't looking at the time!

A pleasant surprise in the form of  distant flashes and a single rumble here in Bexhill- wasn't expecting a low end set up to deliver quite as much as this!

It’s often the low end setups that can deliver unexpected impressive activity, something I’ve learnt over the years!

Some of the lightning on this webcam is mental. Could've sworn there was a flash every 5-10 seconds at one point. Not much being picked up by the detectors..

Very odd cell, popped out of nowhere and is surprisingly prolific lightning wise
