First morning with a real chill in the air. Gorgeous sunrise and car was reading 1.5c as I drove home this morning after nightshift.

Bring on winter!

0.8°C early doors, and then a bright but quite chilly day up to 13.2°C. Out walking the dog and the forest is alive with mushrooms and fungi - loads of this orange peel species on the path. Pretty!

Yes loads of field mushrooms and carousel mushrooms around here on todays dog walks, picked half a bag full.. Some of the carousels were 15cm in diameter!

Given her lack of sympathy to victims of the Bombing, there will bo no surprise that no commemorations will be held in this town, and probably none in Aberfan either.  Tesco being criticised for closing whilst other retailers not.  Later comments by idiot apprentice Andrew haven’t helped.

Very wet start to the day but dry from mid morning onwards.

Some tantalising areas of blue sky around in the afternoon and evening but it remained cloudy here for the most part with light winds.

Another cool day with a max of 11c and the temperature has really plummeted in the last few hours, currently 5c which is already way below the Met Office overnight prediction of 9c.

Got to say, the temperate nature of the Scottish Climate is appreciated when you see monster storms like this around...

Not had any frost here at all so far. Dull and calm spell, very boring. Not going to be lightened by any tv  today is it. Whole week been bl**dy awful, constant wittering of garbage. And no shops open or even the garden centres. 😡

You're not going to miss the banal stories from random people in 'The Queue', and now 'The Crowd' waiting on The Mall? Thanks for the extra day off Liz, at least you kept the BBC waiting before they could show all the guff they've probably had prerecorded for years. .

Low of - 2.8C here overnight but not noticed any frost on the grass. Lovely view over the Vale of Alford this morning though, with some mist in the valley as @Scepticalwas experiencing.

Just a quick question for those off the grid folk... we currently run an oil central heating system and have just looked at a house with an LPG heating system.. wondering if anybody here can advise if they are vastly different to run and the expense difference..

Not all gas engineers will service LPG boilers but, round here at least, those that do don't seem to charge much more than "normal" engineers.

LPG is more expensive than mains gas and be incredibly wary of metered estates on LPG (multiple houses connected to a central LPG tank).

There the supplier has a monopoly and the prices in that scenario reflect that monopoly.

The individual consumer has virtually no chance of moving to a new supplier thanks to the current useless UK govt legislation which ensures that nobody can move supplier unless all consumers on that tank move at the same time - try coordinating that in a 50 house estate as I tried to do 10yrs ago.....  Never again, and will never move back into a metered estate in my lifetime.

This forum is a good source of info for current price trends.

If your home is powered by anything that's NOT mains gas or electricity, this is the place to find help and support.

As to the weather, no need for heating today as it's a summers day with lots of hazy sunshine, light winds and a lovely feeling 18c.

@Quinach this is a new build estate near Alford community campus and i believe it is a shared lpg tank... sounds best to be avoided then?

Demand to see the existing contract so you know the price and how long the contract has to run, these metered estate contracts are usually 2yr fixed rate.  We kicked up such a fuss with the, then, liberal MP helping that Flogas eventually gave us a acceptable contract.  It really is utterly dependant on the local community working together and fighting for the best deal otherwise the likes of Flogas and Calor will take advantage.  Have a look around and see how many new chimneys are installed for wood stoves, that is the default cheaper heating solution for metered estates and a good indicator of how much people feel they are being ripped off.  You can tell I loathe these metered LPG solutions.....
