Chucking it down with horrible cold rain, snow rapidly disappearing. Ah well it was an unexpected treat while it lasted.

Well a disappointing cold spell on the snow front. Had a few ice days cold and frosty with blue skies and light winds which made a nice change from the usual wind and rain. Currently 5°c and bright.  The mad house is quiet today, must all be nursing hangovers after drowning their sorrows

12-14 days time like likely to be next cold spell arriving

Miserable end to the cold spell here.

Air temperature 1.5c now (rising all night) but ground still frozen so the heavy rain showers that are passing through are having the predictable effect on ground conditions.

Even the dog is disgusted with it all, walked out, slipped and came back in and went back to bed!

4C with some high cloud now. No further ppn after our very very brief flurry so no problems getting around. Not that I've heard of anyway.

Horrible underfoot conditions here in westhill today - I have already cancelled my planned jog Scotland run tonight in favour of the gym treadmill. Frozen surfaces boasting a layer of water - lethal combination.

Anybody getting downbeat by the loss of snow today please remember that being part of an island next to the NE sector of the Atlantic, with associated SW winds and currents, it’s very unlikely for us to have consistent snow or wintry spells. We need to take what we can get (unless you’re in the central highlands), and let’s be honest, it’s this scarcity that makes it a topic worth discussing on this forum. Otherwise nobody would be bothered when the snow came, it’d just be normal.

Just been out for a 3 hour walk round the the lower tracks on the North side of Bennachie and was coming on to post about how glorious it had been. Lots of sunshine, no wind, no mud and only a few patches where the snow had turned a bit icy to contend with. Certainly no rain - amazing how conditions can be so different over such a short distance.

Temperature continued to rise slowly overnight to above freezing, currently reporting 2.8c at home. Here in Stonehaven, it’s dreich and damp. Interestingly, on the way in to work this morning via the A93/AWPR A90 (wasn’t taking any chances on the Slug with three dodgy tyres), the temperature jumped from 1c to 4 c in the space of a couple of hundred meters at Drumoak. There were also two cars that had come a cropper on the downward slope of the A90 towards the bridge crossing the Dee, both hitting the central barrier within 50m of each other.

It's been getting steadily dark over the last hour, went through the lurid orange stage and now there's a fair bit of rain coming in from the east. Not as if it's got desperately warm today either, currently 4.5C and falling.

[Northernlights]

its been a fairly severe spell  of cold and everything is very chilled so much so that although we reached only 1c  this afternoon whenever the sky cleared frost returned and temperature fell to -1c. We seem to be cold till late Wednesday now and I feel even Thursday and Friday will be chilly as frost comes out of the ground. It will cool very quickly again if cold upper air returns.

Down in France now milder but wet, damage from Storm Ciaran is incredible to see will take some pics.  Did manage to see some snow at my brothers in Staffs, a rather heavy night  so pics nI think we’re about 2am..

Back home slight thaw but as others have said beginning to freeze again not helped by freezing rain this morning. A few pics from back home yesterday.

I heard about catastrophic flooding around Guillestre. Pretty awful with huge amounts of infrastructure wiped out but at least no loss of life.

Low of 1.3C, high of 3.3C, currently 2.2C, and the 7mm or so of overnight rain just made the driveway icier than it'd been during the cold spell. Had to throw salt over it again after I got home from work as, if anything, it seemed worse than this morning.

What a disgusting day! Hard to believe the change in 24hrs. From snowball fights to surface water and flooded roads. Horrible, horrible pish!

Some torrential rain showers earlier this evening making driving even more entertaining when combined with patches of ice that seem immune to the thaw.

Currently 3c with light winds.

On different tack, the ongoing house hunt delivered this gem of a property advert to the inbox.  First photos seem okay, if a bit messy.  By number 5 you start to wonder what is going on -  then number 9 reveals all, who wouldn't want a dead pigeon in their bathroom... 

And people pay estate agents for this kind of atrocious marketing!

Hope this isn't our winter. Models out to 20th are really poor for winter weather. Climate is definitely different now and chances of any decent winter weather seem to be lessening with every passing year. Hope the Mod thread guys are right but nothing showing at the moment. On a different not off to Aberdeen for a couple of days hoping Lecht has enough snow for skiing.

It's not just lazy and contemptuous marketing, it's just not caring a jot about absolutely anything but SALES SALES SALES.

Estate agents (or whatever you want to call them) have always had a bad name but there are some total shysters out there. Don't get me started.
