Maxed out at 34.8 °C in the end. Squeezed out an extra tenth unexpectedly at about 17:20! Currently 30.3 °C, which is bonkers for here at after 8pm. Not looking forward to tonight, though it will be interesting to see the min, and not really sure what to expect from tomorrow in terms of how quickly a) cloud, b) rain and c) cooler temps might get here. The dry heat has been an interesting experience today, though. It's so often sticky and humid in this country when it's over 30 °C, but not today.

A maximum in the screen of 33.7c was the highest since I began recording locally in 1963 beating the previous record on August 3rd 1990 by 1.2c. The Davis on the roof mast recorded 34.2c and is still reading 28.9c now.

All windows doors and curtains open now here to cool the house as much as possible. Currently watering the cabbage and potatoes before my tea. Just finished watering the roses... Tomorrow will be an experience so will be in and out to do just that 😬

Edit at midnight now at 22c

It's not too bad with a fan, but not much use opening the windows.

Tomorrow will be an experience to say the least regarding high temps... We can look forward to it cooling down for an easier nights sleep from late afternoon.  ☺️

So many months here attacking my phone, never seen so many!

Current minimum temperature 18.4°C here which is a fair bit off the 22.7°C recorded last week. Models suggesting a maximum temperature of 38°C to 40°C tomorrow.

Stifling night as expected in a top floor flat! Managed to sleep with the aid of a good fan. Currently 24c. I've decided to go into the office today rather than tomorrow, the ac was gorgeous yesterday, and I  might as well take advantage of it, rather than work in hell at home! Stay safe everyone and fingers crossed for a storm later.

Just looked at the Davis on the roof and it's reading 26.1c!!. Under normal circumstances that would qualify as a hot summer's afternoon temperature at almost 300 m above sea level. Incredible!

29.5c here now, shot up 5c in an hour! Indoor temps upstairs did not get below 28.6 last night and now up to 29.6. Going to be a very rough night to sleep tonight.

If cloud cover is limited then I can easily see 40c in Notts by 3pm

19.5c min here warmest night on record temps rose later reading 23.4c at 5.45am...

Old reading never got below 23c records again..

32c already now, seemed a little cooler down in the valleys as it feels hotter here..

There was a sharp shower early on too big spots...

Break in the high cloud cover, but more heading in another hour or 2..

A slightly less uncomfortable night than expected here, min of 16.6 °C which is high for my location but something I'd expect a couple of times every summer. Ferocious heat this morning though, already well over 30 °C and it's only 10:30am GMT! Will all depend on when the cloud and cooler air rolls in here as to whether yesterday's mark is beaten or not.

According to local personal weather stations I reached just shy of 38*C (37.8)

The official weather stations:

  • Birmingham Airport topped out at 37*C
  • Coleshill 39*C

Don't know what the previous Birmingham record was but I assume it has been beaten

M.O were a bit too eager for temps. There actual website forecasts were correct but this snap from today's forecast was a bit too high!
